Vertex RX4 Calcium Reactor -- Leaking

125mph

New member
Hi, Please help. I purchased the Vertex RX4 last month from PA, and finally set it up this weekend. I first set it up with a dedicated pump using the Eheim 1048 (158 GPH). It was leaking about 10-15 drops a minute. I thought maybe there was too much pressure being pushed in. I installed a ball valve to control the input but same thing happens. So I thought maybe too much pressure going in again... I tee'd off my bio media reactor's pump which is an Eheim 1250 (317 GPH) and have a ball valve too the JG fitting as weel. I thought any water not going into the vertex would continue to go into my bio media reactor. It still leaks at the same rate.

How are people installing these things with maxijet 1200s which does about the same amount of GPH?

I originally planned for an external installation but now I put it in the sump. So its okay if it leaks a little.. However, I'm afraid one day the leak will get bad.

What am I doing wrong or is this product defective?

I fixed it.. the ehiems were too strong (centrifugal pumps). I used a cheapie maxijet and that solved it.. no more leaks.
