Vertex Skimmer club

Anyone have a 280? I'm debating between the 280 vertex, msx/octo extreme 250, or the ati bubblemaster 200.

FWIW,

I just received my second Vertex skimmer, a Gen II, IN100. I really like the lower bubble plate design, the new pump layout and it's even quieter than my IN80. I just got the skimmer up and operating in an old 29 gallon for run in. This thing is going to look real nice in my 20L sump/fuge

BTW, I got a deal from PA, $149.00 slightly used with a full warranty, it sure pays to keep an eye on PA's clearance and closeout page.

Does anyone know what replacement pumps fit on the IN80/IN100?

My IN100 can sometimes get louder than my car !!

Contact whoever sold you the skimmer. Something isn't right if it is making that much noise. It could be an issue with your impeller.

Been there done that! They gave me a replacement impeller and shaft, but didn't make a difference, so I'm thinking its probably the pump all together. And now its been 3 months since I bought it so I don't think they will do much. Right this second its pretty quiet though.... I don't mind paying for another pump if that will make it perform better, as long as it works, since the skimmer was decently priced to begin with.

It's got a 1 yr warranty, get it replaced. (You give the Vertex a bad name if you say you had to buy a new pump in 3 months.)

I just got my skimmer and put it in the sump! I love this thing already! The bubbles are so fine and the foam it is making is 10X's better than I ever got out of my ASM G1x! The only problem Im having is it is all the way open and it is still overflowing water into the cup. I think it is because it was just cleaned and I have it sitting in 10.5'' of water. Im going to make a stand for it right now. I will post some pics soon.

Got it going and Im super happy already! It is super quiet! I was expecting it to be loud with the mesh wheel mod.

Very interesting... Do you have any pics of the mesh mod that was done on your skimmer? I haven't seen anyone try it yet, but it appears to be working good for you.

Hey all, I just joined the vertex skimmer club. Im going to be running a 90g to a 100g sump in my basement. I'll later be expanding to add a 29g Mantis tank and a 55g frag tank to the system so I bought the IN 250.

Question I have, the manual says to have it between 6-8" deep. Do I need to build some sort of stand to have it sit on inside my sump?

I dont have pics of the mesh mod, but I will get some next time I have it apart. However I will have pics up of what this skimmer has done in less than 24 hours.(battery is dead on camera) There is already 1''+ of dark skimmate in the cup! I cant believe more people arent using this or other Vertex skimmers! THIS THING IS SWEET FOR THE PRICE!!! I got mine for half what it is worth by finding a used one. Thank for all the great info you all provided, it made it an easy choice for my tank!

Here are the pics of what the skimmer has don in less than 24 hours! It is alittle wet, but that is how I like to skim.

too wet for me!

this is my gen1 in100 after a collection cup clean (5 days later). The gunk is thick and stinky! :eek1:

ps- I've marked the turn pipe with a permanent marker (not pictured sry), so before I pull off the collection cup for cleaning I can "open" it up so the bubbles go down and then re-adjust it back to its sweet spot. This enables me to keep the skimmer on, and overall easier maintenance imo.

I believe I'll be upgrading to a larger tank in August and will be selling my IN100, for those of you with a 90g display and a IN180.. What size sump are you using? I ask because having to give up another 3-4" of space wouldn't cut it imo for myself to baffle up another 30g long, I would like a larger fuge section with the larger tank.

My sump is pretty basic:

john,
is that a really tight fit under the 48" display tank? I'm thinking about building my own stand this time around so maybe I could get around that issue.
