Vertex Skimmer club

ulysses- email PA, they'll get back to you fast (regarding the height). I would push for the in250, IMO the in180 wouldn't be enough.

I think the in 180 would be just fine. I would get the 280 over the 250.
But the 180 will be a big performance upgrade over g1x.

I have one laying around you are more than welcome too. shipping would be less than $2 i imagine. or come pick it up :)

Thanks for the help,
Would the 180 be "just good enough" or really be able to handle the bioload if I wanted to stock it a little heavier.

The 180 would be alot easier to work with under the stand, but don't want to have to upgrade again in a year if I wanted to go heavier into SPS and or fish.

I think the 250 gives you much more room to increase your bioload in the future. The in180 could work for you, but I'm all about getting the next size up in skimmers to be comfortable it can keep up with the bioload/ have better water quality.

the 280 isnt that muc more. I would go 280 as it is shorter. the 250 isreally tall. A guy in the local reef club has one. Being taller its more head pressure too. THe 180 would be god enough but the 280 would be more tan enough for anything.

Does anyone here have an exact footprint measurement of the IN-280? The body is supposed to be 10" but the footprint says 11.5"??? I have exactly 11.5" width space with the way my new sump will be configured. I don't mind a tight fit and since my in-wall stand will have 36"+ of clearance I wouldn't need to tip it when removing.

This will be going on a 180g. I tried browsing through this thread but didn't see any other IN-280's in action.

11.5 x 16.5 its a good size skimmer
My skimmer area is 16 x 15. and i use a 4 inch filter sock going in there. and the 180 fit in there really nice. but I would think if you only had 11.5 by 18 per say. it would be a really tight fit. and you would have to be careful your input of your pump wasnt up against the glass as it would choke off the pump.

Length is not a problem as I can place the baffle as far out as needed. Width of that portion of the sump is where it is tight. I could reconfigure if needed to though.

I would like to hear from others who have actually used the 280 as opposed to the 250. I haven't been able to find any reviews of the 280 that would make me want to reconfigure the sump.

try emailing PA, they'll help you out. I think I may have seen someone in here with the 280 but I'm not positive..

I have an opportunity to buy a Vertex IN-180 Internal Pinwheel Protein Skimmer. However I don't know much about them. I have a 100G mixed tank. Can someone give me some insight to this model

Thanks in advance

read back a couple pages. I did a little review on it as well. Perfect size for your tank. Is it gen 1 or 2 ?

I will find out tomorrow if it is a gen 1 or 2...........The only thing I am worried about is the pump from what I have read. I will let u know.

Thanks

mojo- you have any pics of it? or description on how you made it? i have a bunch of pvc laying around. thanks

Glad to see this "club" for Vertex users. :) I've been looking at getting an IN-100 for a new SPS dominated 40G Breeder I am setting up.

I made it in a lathe..

Send me your address. Its a rough piece but you can have it. I ll ship it out to you. And you can mod it if you like It and kep your stock one in one piece. the only difference this far is the air inlet is a tad bigger.

I just put another Vertex into service. It's the 280. I already have a 80 and 250 in use as well as various other skimmers (Warner Marine, Tunze, ASM, ...etc.) So far I have been pleased with the Vertex units, especially the cost point. I have had no pump issues nor have I had any customers that have purchased one have an issue. If I could I'd change two things about them. I'd rather have a twist lock on the cup and a gate valve instead of the wedge pipe but both are minor issues.
