Vertex Skimmer club

well I have a IN280 and I just ordered the BB5000 for it. I can't find anyone running the 5000 on the 280 so I guess ill be the first.

+1 for a good choice. The 280 has a ten inch body which will probably handle the 5000. My octox 200 has a 8 inch body and is awesome with the 3000.

I wanted to give an update on my BB 3000, I cleaned the pump out and found three small snail shells stuck in the needlewheel. After cleaning the pump I re-tested the watt draw and it was 31 watts. That's a big difference from the 94 watts it was pulling before being cleaned.

I'm getting rid of the IN280 and BB3000 setup as it is not matched....after waiting a 4 week breakin and still not happy with the bubble production, I talked to Coralvue and a very very knowledgable RC member and got the right info....The BB5000 will work for the IN280 or a 10" body....The BB3000 will work very well with the IN180 or 8" body...They also recommend ( Coralvue ) the BB5000 for the IN250 because of the extra 6" height even tho it has a 8" body...altho i have heard that the BB3000 does rock the IN250 from members here.

I'm getting the SRO 3000 for my 240g cube and be done with it...

Let us know how the BB5000 rocks the IN280...

Regards,

Does anyone know how to clean the inside of the bubble chamber of a IN-180? Mine has been running for 2 years and I wanted to try to get it all shiny again. But cant get inside the bubble chamber. Any ideas?

Do you mean before the bubbles actually hit the bubble plate? If so I'd recommend taking it out and running it in rodi water + white vinegar mixture for about 24 hours or so. A couple cups of vinegar should do the trick, although I don't think more would hurt.

Otherwise, I try to get as far down with a toothbrush once every week or two when the collection cup is off proceeding a collection cup cleaning which proceeds the 10% waterchange ;)

Vinegar is what I use, also. I also stuff a wash cloth in the inlet hole and swish it around some. Letting it soak in vinegar an water helps. The longer it soaks the cleaner it will get.

vertex in 280 acting up??

vertex in 280 acting up??

Wondering why its producing too much bubbles and not skimming well, trying to figure out before night is over, please help. SOS,what is wrong with this skimmer? Its driving too much water up the column and causing it to overflow? It was fine ysterday.

Vertex skimmer IN 280,problem solved, thanks mojo for your help. The airline was clogged so unclogged it and off to the races of fine bubbles again to the top of the cup. I had this skimmer for 2 to 3 years now with no issues except the impellar, its in my 40 gallon long sump, had to relocate my fuge because of the skimmrs size. My friends joked me of fitting a shark in the sump,it is a beast but very fitting for a 300 gallon volume system. Happy with it and with heavy bio load reef tank,he carries his weight because tank is crystal clear and everyones happy. I am joining the club with the vertex IN 280,will glady post pics soon. Its nice to tag along this vertex club to see everyones thoughts and ideas of new mods.

Hey guys...thought I would post a few pics of my pump off my 1.5 year old gen II IN-280. Thing was running great until today... Pump is dead now...not sure what I am going to do. Called vertex supplier via marinedepot. Says he will send out replacement pump. Not sure if I want to use another resun pump. Some of my fish developed HLLE from the leaking current I think. All other parameters are fine, no nitrates, feeding selcon and varying their diet. I was thinking BB 5000 pump but they are almost as much as I paid for the skimmer on marinedepot. Not sure what to do.

Man, not a pretty picture, but I don't think the pump is made any more. As to HLLE, this is a bacterial problem exacerbated by nutrients in the water column, not current, although other factors may further the problem. I would double check my test kits. What is the PO4 level?

I would perform water changes, copper might have been introduced to the tank because that looks like rust, sorry to hear about your pump.
