Vertex Skimmer club

I haven't heard much, but I don't understand how they can call it a Vertex when it is manufactured by Bubble King and uses a Red Dragon pump.... It's also not priced like a Vertex at $999 after a $200 off pre order incentive. Check out Premium Aquatics, they have them up on their website.

Yes, The Alpha cone is being brought to us by proline. Proline is the distributer of Bubble king. Most dont know that Vertex is also proline. So when they wanted a cone they wanted to have one that would beat all the competition. So who better to make this skimmer than bubble king. Who they already have good relations with. So This is how I have been told it all worked out. if this helps at all.

Quick question:
What Gen2 Vertex should I use for a 120gallon total water volume sps dominated system with a heavy bio load.
I've heard that their ratings for the skimmer are pretty close.
Thoughts?

Personally, I'd go with the IN-180. My system is going to be very comprable in size, but maybe a little lighter bioload and I went with the 180. Everything I've read and seen from these skimmers, they do not appear overrated nearly as much as other manufacturers. But if you have the room and have any plans of eventually moving to a larger system the 250 might be worth a look.

That's the same thing I was thinking.
I'm looking at the 180.
I have the room for the 250, but does it perform that much better??

Ehutdchby, the dittty goes, "aye the skimmers are a changin" lol. Just get the best skimmer you can comfortably afford and rest easy. Design concepts are constantly changing and rightly so. But, whether tall and sleek or fat and short pay attention to how much unskimmed water the skimmer truly handles, people get hung up on the amount of air per pass. That is important, but the more air usually means less water. You can spin forever in paradox equations. I have a 65 gallon sps tank that for six years has had a kent skimmer. I'm upgrading because I've finally loaded the thing to apoint I have to. Do your homework, listen to the people on the various threads and make your decision. Dang I'm long winded.

Skimmers have become like digital cameras, or a new car, you get it and its already outdated. Just do the best you can and be happy. I have sat at this screen for weeks, watching threads, listening, and evaluating. I'm close to making a decision and if nothing else it will be an informed one. Gotta get back to work.

Well I joined the club last week. Here are some pics of my new gen 2 IN-180. Had this thing pulled out of the box and put together in less than 5 minutes. I really like this design, and the construction is very robust.

When I get home I should have about 5 days of nog waiting. I never anticipated that I'd be excited to empty my skimmer cup. Gotta love new toys.

wippjas post some pics of skimmer in action, want to see how much of skimmer body is filled up with bubbles

Anyone have their Vertex is water deeper than 8"? Mine is sitting in about 12" but still pulls a lot of gunk out. I could make a stand to raise the skimmer but then I would never be able to remove the cup so I would rely on it draining into another container.

You got it guys..... Some action pics.

I've still got to dial it in. I only had time to set the water level and it was off to the airport. It is sitting in 8 inches of water. The skimmate is a little wet for my liking, but the water is MUCH clearer, and there was definately less algae on the glass than I am used to after a week on the road.
