Vertex Skimmer club

Anyone need a skimmer cup for there vertex 100. I have an extra (its hazed a bit). PM me if you are intrested.

I just picked up a used IN-80 for my 75g setup. Anything I should know? I have read back through the thread, almost all 1,000 posts.

I have the output pipe raised up to the water surface to reduce back pressure in the body. Skimmer is running in 8'' of water in my sump.

It is starting to pull skimmate already, under 24hrs of use.

Keep an eye on it daily, you'll most likely have to close the wedge pipe slowly as it breaks in. It sounds like everything else is just fine. I don't want to sound rude, but personally I would have gone with at least the IN100 - preferably the IN180. Is your tank a reef setup? Do you have the 75g stocked pretty well or is it a light bioload? I'm a firm believer for a little overkill on skimming if you can't tell. ;)
 
I would say a light-medium bio-load. I have some SPS and LPS. I also have 3 fish in about 90-100 gallons. A 3'' Atlantic Pygmy angel, 3'' Cinnamon Clown, and a 3'' Pacific Sailfin Tang. I fed light about every 2-3 days.

I used to run a MRC MR-1 on this tank but never got enough skimmate production from it to really deam it worth it as it was loud and the Mag 9.5 drew some power at 93w. I found this used on the forum for a great price and couldn't resist.

It reminds me a lot like the Euro-Reef skimmers as I had an old ES5-3 on a similar setup a few years ago, worked like a champ IMO.

I removed the long pipe that the water exits from, and just have the 90 elbow turned down to the water.

I just picked up a IN-180 for a really sweet price. I have skimmed over all of the posts and and other than setting it in approx. 7" of water, am I missing anything? My 140 will be here in a few weeks, so I am itching to plug it up. I would skim the crap out of my 55 literally, but the sump is a hair to small on it. Any suggestions would be great. Here is a pic.

Only thing I can see is turning the "B" pipe and 90 degree elbow downward, towards your water. You don't want it to be fully submerged as this will create back pressure in the skimmer's body. I actually removed the pipe label "B" and just turned the 90 straight down into my sump. It just reaches the water level, actually quite perfect in 8'' of water.

I got mine used from a reefer on here and it is already producing skimmate under 24hr of use....

Thanks, yeah I don't know why I have it turned up in the pic. That would not make sense to run it like that. I think I will take your advice and just remove the pipe though. Seems like that would give me a little more mobility for positioning.
 
I know some people have meshed the stock pump that came with these skimmers, I am going to ask the 280 owners specifically. Has any 280 owners mesh modded the stock pump and did you see any improvements? TIA

Has anyone upgraded the pump on the in-100? I was wondering how the body would handle more air since it shares the same pump with the in-80. Maybe slap an atb pump on it?

I have a question. I'm strongly considering getting an IN-80 for my new 29gal. I'm designing my sump (and maybe refugium) setup right now. Can anyone tell me what would be an "ideal" size chamber for that skimmer? Ideally you would want the smallest that you could get away with for more effective skimming right?

I've thought about maybe putting it in a bucket that overflows into the sump, or maybe it's own compartment in a sump or... ? Just not sure yet but I'd like to build it all out while I'm waiting for the skimmer if I order it.

Ive got mine sitting in a chamber that is 9 x 12, and it sits in about 9 1/2" water which is deeper than ideal, but it pulls a ton of funk so Im not worried.
 
Thanks uiu! Would you say that is about the smallest size chamber that it would work in, or could it possibly be any smaller?
 
Its tight to work in as it is, I wouldnt want it any smaller for that reason, but you could probably knock it down to 10" from 12" but I wouldnt reduce the width any.

My gen 2 skimmer didnt come with the cap and the elbow for the wedge pipe. Is this something thats is worth having or should i not worry about it?
I thought it kinda looked like sch 80, so i bought a sch 80 cap but it was to big.

Well...after going though this entire thread, I've decided that the in-100 is the skimmer for me. Chatted online with Jeremy over at Premium Aquatics for a little bit and pulled the trigger. I'm just hoping that it will fit in my sump...it's going to be close but it seems that a few people with my dimensions were able to get it in. Thanks to everyone for sharing their thoughts/experience on this skimmer. It's been very helpful!
 
i have a question to all you vertex gurus... i have a vertex in100 that i have been playing with and i cant seem to keep the water line constant. it is sitting in a constant 7 3/8" of water and the water line will fluctuate greatly in the skimmer body. it is a gen 2 unit. what i usually do is try to set the water line in the skimmer at right above the connection point of the skimmer cup. what happens is the wedge pipe is full open at first, then the water level will go down a bit, so i close it a bit and watch it for a min to make sure that it stays where it should. i unusually have to make a few adjustments over one or two days, it will be fine for a few days staying consistent, then boom the water line is all the way in the neck of the cup. nothing changes, no additives, nothing. it is pulling around the 13-15 scfh that it should. the skimmer is running on a 60 gal cube with about 10 gal in the sump, if i dont figure this out it will be for sale sooooon. i have also talked to Jeremy at premium about this and he is baffled as well.
