Has anyone upgraded the pump on the in-100? I was wondering how the body would handle more air since it shares the same pump with the in-80. Maybe slap an atb pump on it?

I have a in-100 and put a sicce with a pin wheel on it. skims a little better, pump is definitely quieter.

Mesh Mod on In-80 --

does it work on this skimmer? do you have to do anything out of the ordinary to mesh mod for this pump? Did a search and didn't find pictures of modding THIS skimmer. all comments appreciated!

OK I got my GenII in180. Can someone show me a pic of how you use the bracket to hold the pump at the skimmer intake? Not sure how this works since there is not true connection to the skimmer.

if your pump is making noise

if your pump is making noise

My in 250 started making a racket...I sent an email to the supplier and a replacement impeller was at a local shop for me within the week.

I swapped it out and it is whisper quiet.

There is great support, use it.

Hello,

My gen 2 skimmer didnt come with the cap and the elbow for the wedge pipe. Is this something thats is worth having or should i not worry about it?
I thought it kinda looked like sch 80, so i bought a sch 80 cap but it was to big.

Thanks for the help

I just unpacked (thoroughly) my Vertex IN-100. Man, this thing looks like it will be a beast!
Quick question: the bracket that's supposed to hold the pump looks like it was glued together (the 2 black square pieces with the triangular support brace) but they're separated. Did this happen to anyone else? I'm assuming it was done like that b/c of a re-packaging or because they changed their box.. doesn't look like it was broken during shipping but I can't imagine having to buy a new skimmer that requires super glue..

one thing i have noticed is the amount of air is reduced if the air line is connected to the silencer, it really doesnt make much noise with it not connected that way and i have alot more bubbles without it connected. e welcome to the club

Got it going and Im super happy already! It is super quiet! I was expecting it to be loud with the mesh wheel mod.

looks cool.

I could use some help. IN-100 new model on a mixed 75g reef mostly softies and lps. Sitting in 8" In my sump and works great, my issue is several times now I have had the collection cup just all of a sudden fill with water. What's causing this. Help!

Airline is not kinked, the output pipe is angled but UNDER the water line. Not sure how I would get it above the water line because if I did the whole skimmer would be out of the water. I have always been confused about this when I was reading about peoples concerns with back pressure. Does anyone have a pic of how the output return is above the water line while the skimmer is still sitting in 7-8 inches of water? I read some more posts and forgot to mention that this is a new setup, been running about two weeks. I combined two aquaod 24's into it so there hasn't really been a true cycle. I never let it run 'full open' when I first set it up. Do I need to do that for a few days and just let the water drain out of the collection cup back into the sump?

Here is my build thread, there is a pic where you can see the skimmer in the sump. If better pictures would help let me know!

you can angle the output pipe so that its not going straight down, but rather to the side. also, running it wide open should lower the level of the water and make it less likely to overflow. Run it like that for a few days, and then make small adjustments.

Had my IN-80 for 4 months with flawless performance. Nice and quiet, thick, smelly, NASTY skimmate collecting. I have it running deep. Like in about 12" of water, but it's dialed in and has been running fine.

Recently, the motor has gotten ridiculously loud.

And now twice, the skimmer cup has just POOF overflowed. Not with skimmate, but more over just water. At this point, I have unplugged the skimmer until I can resolve this.

I don't get it. There's nothing blocking the air vent, and there is no dramatic water level change which would push the skimmer to flood like this.

I'm sure the motor is either having impeller issues or the bushings are shot or both. I have written Aquaristik to see if they can send me some fix-it parts, but am considering a replacement pump. It sounds like the Octopus BB 2000 would be about the best bet. But I have a handful of questions.

1. Has anyone used a BB 2000 on an IN 80 Skimmer? If so, any issues? (pump too big, too small??)

2. Any thoughts on why the skimmer cup is mysteriously filling with water? Remember, this JUST started and has been running in the exact same environment flawlessly for 4 months.

3. I have my skimmer output standpipe fully submerged, under the water, but am reading this creates unwanted backpressure. What is the ill-effect of this backpressure?

Any other thoughts/comments on my issues/setup? (other than running it in lower water. I can't do it due to installation space and sump design)
