Can someone please offer some insight to this question as it's been asked many times with no responses.....i am also very curious to this answer....my stock pump is working fine but i have nothing to compare the results too.

Also i put in 250ml of vertex pro pellets two days ago, and now my skimmer is not pulling out anything at all (the foam head has completely broken)
Is this normal? is the skimmer just breaking in?
Also what height should the water be in my sump i have it at about 7-8 inches
the skimmer pulled alot out when i put it online last friday
the body of the skimmer does not look as opaque (due to lots of air bubbles) as it did when it first started, would their be an issue with it not pulling in as much air?

Your skimmer height is right on......i have mine set at 7.5 inches...

I would but i'm at work for the night....i do know what your talking about whether you think there's enough air as i've had the same thoughts.....You have to turn down the air intake enough so that your water colum rises enough to get the proper foam head in the neck. What i can say tho regardless of this the skimmer pulls some nasty stuff....I'm thinking the pump might be alittle undersized for the skimmer and is why i'm looking at upgrading to a BB pump.

I wouldn't try a Bubbleblaster! IMO Bad experience and many others would agree with me. They are very loud and from tangtang clowns pics why would you ever want to put a pump in a saltwater tank where it will inevitably rust. Doesn't make sense to me. Poolkeeper any metal in a tank is a BIG red flag. Let see, you try to recreate a reef environment and use RO/DI water, now, tossing any rust in a tank will have drastic effects on the water most likely killing your sensitive corals. Not worth the risk IMO. I've had friends heaters broke or a powerhead which leached stuff into the tank and of course there tanks crashed. Buyer beware..would you really want to gamble with your livestock that you pay thousands of dollars on..NOT me!!

Poolkeeper, first off the Resun pumps are very outdated and are no longer supplied with this skimmer and they have improved there pumps. The new ones are very reliable from what I hear. The second I plugged in the vertex pump it was "dead" silent. Bubbleblaster on the other hand very loud and rattly. :hmm3: Not my cup of coffee. lol I read a review where someone ordered a SRO XP 2000 and had the same issue as me, loud noisy pump. They sent it back and replaced it. Second time same thing..defect? :worried: He gave up on it, sold it, then bought a SWC cone skimmer and was very satisfied. I haven't tried one of these skimmers, but I hear people have very good thing to say about them. For my application the SWC was to small and I wasn't sold on the mesh because it eventually clogs up over time and requires constant maintenance. The vertex was the perfect skimmer; pinwheel, silent pump, bubble plate, drain for collection cup, small footprint, simply a very efficient skimmer with many quality features at an affordable price. This Vertex skimmer is handsdown the best bang for you buck! The Super Reef Octopus Cone skimmers are actually very expensive poolkeeper and I was hoping for a better outcome given I payed $650 for the SRO xp 3000 and my Vertex was only $285 and outperforms it no questions asked. I owned both and I'm the first who can tell you. My vertex is the gen 3 btw. Got it from Premium Aquatics. Excellent service and received it the next day! You won't be disappointed if you get the Vertex. :celeb1:

A broken heater and a little rust from a screw are two different situations, As far as these pumps being loud, Not in my experiance and I've had contact with around 6 different pumps all together of various sizes.
If you do not like these pumps, Don't use them no one is forcing anybody to do anything on this thread but making statements that are not proven in my estimation helps no one.
All the people that agree with you seem to be very few at best and any product that sells as many pumps as BB there will always be those who are not happy no matter what.
A droped screw or razor blade or any minor metal object, Not talking about copper or other bad metals will Crash your tank NOT. No matter how many times you try and say differently IMO.
On a side note turns out one of the three XP 5000 cones we got was a Proto type XP8000, When you stand it next to a 5000 It's all about 20-30% larger.
Now all we need to do is order an BB 8000 pump and I can't wait to see how that pump does:celeb3::celeb1::celeb3:

FTR, my bb3000 is dead quite. Only thing I hear on my entire setup is the low hum from the CL Dart pump. I will try to get a vid, time permitting.
My 3000 is real silent too.
The construction of my in280 skimmer body is of outstanding quality, very well built to say the least. I would buy another skimmer from them if I could buy it without the pump. Maybe the Gen 3 stuff will prove itself with time, too new to tell at this point.

Poolkeeper I'm looking out for people and there livestock. Seeing tangtang clowns photos of "RUST" hidden on the inside of the pump doesn't look good to say the least. As far as the vertex gen 3 being to early to tell that's silly. This is the "Gen 3" the previous models were the gen 1 and gen 2. They have made a lot of changes to get it to how it is now. I think you should be directing that statement towards the SRO XP 3000..that is a brand new model and have never made any improvements because it was just released! Worth noting; NO more Resun pumps. :dance:

The only thing wrong with the gen 1 was the Resun pump had some issues and they have fix that by providing a new pump. Rust hit the dust! :hmm6::wave::hmm6:
IMO the HY-2000S will produce a foam head that will overflow the IN-100 in 7" of water and probably too much in general. So you'll have to raise it or restrict the flow somehow.
Mine currently runs 5 to 5.5" of water on an IN-100 (2 gen) mostly closed. In 6" of water it needs to be fully open. This is without connecting the airline to the stock silencer that comes with IN-100 which restricts air flow (and causes the skimmer to overflow). Even without the silencer, it's quiet compared to the Resun (which is now the backup).
FWIW, I originally looked at trying the HY-1000S because I couldn't take the noise generated by the Resun, but went with the 2000S when the 1000S was back ordered.
Hopefully other IN-100 users will weigh in with their pump replacement experience.

on my IN-80 (same pump as the IN-100), I tossed the OEM pump in favor of the Tunze Hydrofoamer 9410.040. It took me a while to get things dialed in right, and I ended up having to pull the airline off of the tall-stack pipe and just leaving it sit out in the open to suck up air, but it's DEAD silent and pulls great skimmate.
