Vertex Skimmer club

well got the airstar, was pretty easy to get it too fit, forgot to take photo's , currently using the small pp on it and can you say WHAT A DIFFERANCE. i mean night and day in how this skimmer is performing within 4 hour's, i dont need to close the valve 3\4 of the way to get a head now either

so is this the psk 600? Sorry just a bit confused. could you post a link?

edit: ahh atb. still though, link?

edit#2: okay, atb mini airstar is the psk600? heeellp me

pm sent evmibo, it is the sicce 2500 the in100 body to me is a 500 lph on low side but think it could handle 650 or so, i am using the small ppw and have the large also but doesnt look like i will need it, the in180 i think should have around 1000 lph instead of the 800. so basically for me i got the skimmer used from friend $100 and the pump on here used for a $100 and my $200 skimmer is now a beast. will take more run time to know for sure but after 20 skimmers i think i got one i just might keep more then 4 months lol

I too bought a Vertex almost a year ago, the IN 80 model. I agree with the consensus that these are a good value just the pumps are unreliable. After reading the posts here it sounds like someone has an issue with every other pump out in the market as well. That being said I was curious what everyone's thoughts are for the best replacement pump for this smaller sized skimmer. I have narrowed it down to the Bubble Blaster 1000 or the Sicce 600, thoughts?

I think I'm in this club now :)

So what is the consensus on a vertex in 100? I have a gen 2 vertex in100 on a 75 with a light/medium fish load but it is predominately sps so I would like to increase its performance. I was thinking BB2000 but have heard mixed reviews on if the pump would be too much for the body of the in100. I have also heard sicce 2500, would be nice but would it be able to handle the red devil wheel? I've also heard getting the hydrofoamer, but I don't think that would increase its performance enough for me. It's either that or I can get a new skimmer but I don't really want to :(

Thanks

You can solve the too much issue by raising the skimmer higher in the sump, In other words run it in less water and you can get the sweet spot.

raising wont help much tried that and a few other things with the in100, it just doesnt pull enough air, as stated earlier i switched out to a atb airstar with the small purple pin wheel, have the large also but dont feel the need for it. look at the sicce 600 it pulls same as the 2500 at a little over 600gph

Ok the sicce psk-600 and 1000 are the new line I forgot all about those. Do you think the psk-600 will be the best pump for performance? I dont care about noise or anything like that I've put up with the vertex pump for this long. I just want the best performance, I want this skimmer to suck the sh*t right out of my fish  So for in100 bb2000 is on the back burner, looking at the sicce psk 600 and 1000.. Would the 1000 be too much you think? Will the red devil fit the psk 600/1000?

Not just raising the Skimmer, I mean use the Bubble Blaster Pump he thinks is too big and raise the Skimmer to find the sweet spot with the new pump! Duh
Bill:thumbsup:

Well right now the skimmer sits in about 8.5" of water and I can only raise it up about an inch an a half so it would be 7" of water, hopefully it won't be too powerful for that.

I actually ended up going with the Tunze Hydrofoamer 9410.040 with my IN-80. Have to say after almost a months operation I am quite pleased. Even the first cup of nog after two days almost made me vomit it smelled so vile! Yes!

was it plug and play? any modification needed to connect this pump to the skimmer? I have a gen1 in100, just curious, thanks.

the sicce 600 would be best for the in 80 and 100 and i think the large nw would be too much, the 600 push's the same amount as the 2500 as far as gph, not sure of the air draw, with the atb airstar { sicce 2500 } my bubbles start at the black ring on the body where transition starts to go up

Not much tweeking needed, I put a little plumbers tape around the pump outlet and raised the pump off the sump floor a half inch, fits the same as the original pump just a hair shorter.

I bought my in100 recently from a fellow local reefer. I am having 2 problems with it.

1. It sometimes fails to restart if I unplug it. If I remove the pump and impeller and put them back in it will work fine. Not sure why but that's what seems to fix it.

2. It seems excessively loud to me. It is not touching any part of the sump which would cause any weird vibrations. if I remove the pump and run just that, the impeller seems awfully loud and "shakey" in the pump housing.

Any opinions? Thanks

you could order a new impellar, impellar might be going bad, first generation impellar were not polished properly and had excessive wear on shaft in which caused it to have to much play in it and was loud.
