Modding a Gen I IN-100

Modding a Gen I IN-100

Not sure if anyone has tried this or not but I have decided to Mod my IN-100 to mock the NAC7. I am going to be making a space saver version of the IN-100 and putting the pump in the bottom. I will be posting pics along the way. Any input would be appreciated from the ones with more experience.

I just placed a tunze hydrofoamer pump on an IN80 I had in my garage and decided to test it out. I have it running in a tote in my garage and it is Completely milked out. I have the wedge pipe wide open and it's running in 8 inches of water. I can tell that once it settles in it will over flow like a maniac. I'm running it in 8 inches in the tote because thats what I run my sump at and I wanted to see what it would do. Anyone else running a hydrofoamer on an 80 or 100 and if so, what water level are you running it at.

It was easy to install. I just put a few wraps of teflon tape around the collar of the hydrofoamer and used the vertex pvc 90 that was for the stock pump. I have the hydrofoamer standing with the intake pointing downward.

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Tivo

Not a Sedra, It's a Resun that has many issues from rust problems to speed variation Broken shafts Overflow issues and on and on. Go back and read the thread from the start.

great skimmer for the price, just upgrade your pump. I have gen I and latest version of insump 180 no pump problems, rust, broken anything. Just lots of nasty green crud :)

just cleaned the collection cup on my stock Vertex In-80 running on my Elos System 70.

It made me realize how great this skimmer is out of the box w/ no adjustments. i'm sure there are better skimmers, but for only paying around $150 for this when i bought
it new, it's been running for more than a year and it's pulling it's weight in skimmate.

i'll have the espresso with extra chunks please.

I cannot speak from experience, but Jeremy at Premium Aquatics told me that the Gen III pumps are improved and do not have the problems of earlier generation pumps. I am thinking very strongly about getting a 280.

Any feedback from someone who has a Gen III 250 or 280?

Since the impeller revision was made from the Gen I pumps, the durability has been much better with these. The motorblock itself is very strong, it's the impeller which had the issues. Every now and then we still hear of one failing, but in all reality if the impeller is right from the start, simple maintenance such as a good cleaning every few months should make the pump last for quite a while.

well i joined the club for a 3rd time after having 2 in180's which were too much for my system i got a gen3 in100, just feel the pump isnt enough for the skimmer thinking if air was closer too 600 this would make this a killer skimmer, so before long will be changing out pumps to either the new sicce or a tunze, like the bb1000 but air is the same as the factory pump

well just waiting for my airstar mini to arrive and i will be trying this pump out on the in100 gen 3. the one thing i think they didnt get right on these skimmers is the amount of air, the in100 has i think 420 lph and i think this body will handle more around 600 or so, so hoping this pump works out without to much mod to get it to fit

well got the airstar, was pretty easy to get it too fit, forgot to take photo's , currently using the small pp on it and can you say WHAT A DIFFERANCE. i mean night and day in how this skimmer is performing within 4 hour's, i dont need to close the valve 3\4 of the way to get a head now either

Vertex skimmers are great once you put a good pump on them. I see nothing they can do to the Resun pump to make it compare to any replacement out there other than to totally start from scratch with a new design. No Impellar will solve the rust issues with this pump or the air draw/water mixture. JMO
