Richard, here is the video I shot last year of your rock farm. I did not edit the video. Next time i'll have my strobe on the underwater housing and hopefully condition will be more video friendly.

Pretty sweet. Nice to see where it all comes from and you can definitely see the fact that Richard is selecting the rock rather than just throwing XX lbs into the net.

It was a really rough/no visibility kind of day.....in fact this whole winter has been really a mess......I am going to try to dive tomorrow....and if all goes well....will be rocking!

I inspect each rock, and 'farm' the site as I work underwater, the rock has to be stacked, turned, unburied.....just like any other farm....work to be done each day diving....

Richard definitely works very hard. After all that rock has been brought to his shipping facility and put into holding tanks, there is all the equipment to hose off and clean...the dive gear, the boat and decks, flushing the outboard, the holding buckets, etc, etc.
 
I thught you couldn't take rock with sponges on it out of the water for fear the sponges would die????

Another internet myth....30 years ago I was collecting sponges for the wholesale trade, were exposed to the air many times with no ill effects....only certain types of specific sponges are non tolerant to air exposure.....

Well...got rock the last two days...am happy that summer is coming....was not rough seas...but low visibility....but got the KILLER rock today.....nice to be back underwater again!

That is great! while waiting on my part 1 and again for part 2 I dreamt about going and seeing it in person. It does make me wonder how the heck I got a tiger goby in part 1 though... Tigger must have just refused to leave "his" rock which he still lives in btw Richard :)

Nothing here...yet...they are burning it...and not telling the whole story....first they said 45,000 gallons a day leaking...now they are saying 400,000 a day, will be an environmental disaster if not contained...:thumbdown

yeah, I noticed that the amount leaking per day suddenly changed from gallons to barrels. Hope they can get it taken care of quickly.
 
I sure hope they get this leak stopped soon. Like Richard said this will be a DISASTER. It is already destroying the oyster beds and will destroy the commercial shrimp industry. If it comes this to Florida it will destroy our beautiful gulf coast beaches and further hurt our economy. So much for the oil companies telling everyone that offshore drilling is safe.
 
It could be quite some time before it's contained... They can't get the back up emergency valves to close. They are working via remote sub 5K feet down. They are talking about drilling a new well to intersect the current one, which means putting a new drilling rig out there - that will not happen fast enough. Let's hope they get the shut off valves to work soon!

I heard BP had no 'catastrophe' insurance on this leased rig. A new 'diverter' well will cost them into the several hundreds of million of $s, not to mention the enviro cleanup cost and law suit that is sure to ensue. Do we really need more offshore drilling????

I had a reef tank for 3 years - one bad crash and it all disappeared while I was on vacation last year. I'm going to start again this summer and I'm planning on a TBS tank!

Start praying for more northerly winds!!!!!
