Vodka dosing and a monoculture

A related thread featured a technical explanation of why pure methanol is the best choice. I'm very curious what the best results are achieved with.

Sugars - would a raw, turbinado cane sugar be the most chemically pure? Viable? Is there a lab-grade sugar out there?
(Maybe the stuff Twinkies are made of)

There certainly is highly purified sucrose available. One grade is several hundred dollars a pound. You can even get it made from carbon 13 instead of normal carbon 12 if you want to label your bacteria with unusual carbon isotopes. :D

Twinkies are made from carbon 13. Just as I suspected.

Thanks for the info Randy. I'm considering lab grade additives as exclusively as I can. If I eventually dose sugar, I'd rather err on the side of purity, like with any additive. And a tsp at a time won't break the bank, even on highly purified sucrose.

I want to sell the next super coral grown with rare isotope bacterial filters...... It will be called the reverse Rypoff and sell for 200 an inch.

LOL!

so is prodibio and vodka doseing basically the same thing? seems to me that it would be a lot cheaper to just use the vodka. anyone using vodka with prodibios reef booster? im thinking about trying the vodka was going to go with prodibio just seems a heck of a lot cheaper with the vodka..

thanks rbu1 i have read that a few times my question was is prodibio and vodka dosing essentially the same thing or i guess would i get the same results?

Well not sure anyone will be able to answer that. I am not sure what is in prodibio. If it is a type of carbon source then I would say the chances are good that it has a form of sugar in it. Vodka is a great deal cheaper.....Just make sure you follow the directions and do not overdose.
