Vortech Controller is out.

To many choices now :) I can't decide between pulse, reef crest.

I think with my setup reef crest may be the best since the flow gets strong enough to make it to the other side of the tank.
where the pulse doesn't quite make it.
And pulse doesn't have enough to make a decent wave with my setup.

No worries I see aquarium specialty has the Vortech MP40w
as a complete pump coming soon.
I may just have to get a second one :D

Actually we have had these in stock since Tuesday of this week:) and we still have a lot in stock.

Nice!
Could be a little while till I can pick one up.
Just had to put a new rim on the M. I don't know which hobby is more expensive fish or cars :eek1:

The answer is both...

I NEED another Vortech I also NEED stuff for the car and neither will help me make more money...

but you can rationalize that the pump will provide needed flow to help your corals grow, and one day you can harvest frags and make some money. With the car, well, I guess you could register for Pinks. :D

I agree it's not an option of "if" it's more of a "when"
I do need both :)
But I want to get the car off of the jack stand for this weekend.
The fish will need to suffer for a week or two :D

well i definetly think the wave action will give me better growth the corals and tank look good after two days with the wave

before i had soo much flow but it was just not as good plus im saving electricity with two less pumps in the tank and much better oxygen

Can you guys help make me a little smarter? Since you are using the Vortech Controller for the PH's how does this effect the way you use your other controllers?

Thanks,

Ben

yea i used to run all my pumps at 100% now i have my tunze controller set to pulse the 6055 30%-100%, and i took out another tunze because the wave is so intense

Any suggestions on where to place a pair of these, with controllers on a six foot long 270gal tank? I have had them at opposite ends of the tank for the last several months, but now that my controllers have arrived there may be more optimal positions. Anyone have any experience with placement thus far?

I would love to see some tank config drawings start to pop up with how people are placing their Vortechs and what the resulting wave action is. Can somone start a thread dedicated to placement and configuration?

If you guys start documenting this, we will post the configurations on our webpage and maybe include a link to the videos to show the many different ways of running the pump. I think this would help everyone.

I would like to help out with tank configurations/video of my wwd's in action. I need some tutorials on "how to" get this on a post.
If anyone has a link to help with this I'd appreciate it.

In the meantime. The 2 vortechs are placed opposite each other 5", 6" inches below surface, about 20% beyond midpoint on the glass.

Have tested the constant speed, lagoon random (anti-synch), reef crest random (anti-synch) and pulse (anti-synch). With the pulse there's a wave that can be seen below the surface, with no visible wave at the surface level. That's ok because I don't have the extra room for a 1"+ wave.

This will only benefit my tank, and I'm moving out of softies, to mainly lps, and perhaps sps which would really love the extra options the wwd gives.

I like the idea of being able to switch from one mode to another in the course of 24hrs, but wish this could be programmed in the driver. Maybe ecotech will incorporate that down the road.

summer6 email me or Tim with the video and i will get it up here for you or im Sure Tim could handle it as well. or you could just load it to photobucket.com. or youtube.

Thanks for offering. I still have to take a video, and hope to get it together soon enough.

Do you guys think 1 of these bad boys with the controller would do the trick in a 5' tank? They already is quite a bit of flow from my return pump.

Thanks,

Ben
