Vortex Diatom and Cyano Outbreak

I recently started adding a vortex diatom polishing phase to my weekly routine and have noticed an small cyano outbreak. I have suspended my vortex phase out of concern that this might be the root of the issue. After all, cyano has some relation to diatom, and I am filtering all the water through diatomacious earth.

Am I correct? Will a vortex diatom filter cause a Cyano outbreak in a mature reef? Does it mean that some diatoms are escaping into the tank? Or is this a result of my stirrring up more gunk for the vortex to pick up?

Thanks for any advice....

This is more likely related to your protein skimmer efficiency than to filtering with DE, though I suppose your DE might be leaching some minerals (such as phosphates) to your tank water, giving the cyanos a more favorable environment. But this seems unlikely, so I would look more to your dissolved organics first.
