wow we had a few of those at the LFS I worked at, we kept one in a coral tank and sold the other two for $200 each....$3000 is just retarded for something that looks basicly just like a flame wrasse.
Sorry, but wholesale on them is about five times that. You didn't sell them for $200, and I'm pretty sure your lfs didn't get any in.

One of the true holy grail fish that are actually obtainable and they are stunning in person.
Knowing Tom, its highly likely that he doesn't have these fish in GA. He listed that Personatus that was caught recently on his site as soon as it was caught. My guess would be that he is selling it but it will come from the collector if they are still available.

Thanks for the help guys....I figured it was a yellowfin as soon as I saw it start flashing.

I have read on several sites that the yellowfin can have up to 4 dorsal spikes and anything less. Oh well....it was cheap and worth a shot, my quest for a male McCosker continues!

So would that be considered a SUPERMALE FLAME HOG-WrAsse?!

.......I would definantely drop $200 for one of those, it would be retarded not to.......:p

hey........where is the guy that is spellchecking......pretty sure that I spelled "definantely" wrong.....can you confirm that....

I'm actually really excited to have something like this so close. I looked over the site and he's within 15 minutes of me. I could drive over to him to pick up the fish.

Hello all. I have no space for a sunset or even have seen one in person. From what I have heard they are beautiful in person and extremely rare. Anyway one of my connections have them available for well below the one we are talking about. Tim

myerst, it is unlikely the supplier will sell it to a hobbyist below that. One collector caught them all, and most are going to Japan. Maybe for a favor he would, or he is selling them wholesale to the end user which isn't a smart idea.. lol

Well, Rich Pyle collected the first living specimen of Bodianus sanguineus, and also collected the only one on public display in the world at the Waikiki Aquarium... here's a shot I took of him below last year... a gorgeous fish that is tough to capture in a photo... much like Chaetodon tinkeri...

This recent collection we could also thank Rich for... In the same exhibit at the Waikiki Aquarium there is an undescribed Prognathodes sp. butterfly that Rich has collected in Hawaii... here is a shot of one below I took from the exhibit...

He's been wanting to collect the holotype specimen (actual specimen used to describe the species), and did some recent diving with some other rebreather divers to 400+ feet... no Prognathodes, but they got a few of these Bodianus... these are worth every penny... 400 feet results in even rebreather divers being narced, and therefore we will never see these in any great numbers... they've been collected VERY sporadically since Brian Greene moved away from Hawaii, as singles, and of course go to the Orient... and so anyone looking for one of these fish should jump on them now... they are as bulletproof as all other Bodianus, as long as you keep a lid over them...

And for those that would like to see one in the wild, without getting trimix certified on a rebreather, you could see them in shallow water in the Northwest Hawaiian Islands, as they are now running eco-trips to the island of Midway...
