Warner Marine K2

the only thing I don't like is the air silencer is attached to the lid so when you take the cup off your have the air silencer attached too.

Here are a couple of photos of the WM K-2 running. The difference between this skimmer and the ATB 840 is amazing. The ATB was decent, but the K2 will run circles around it in my opinion.

You made me regret buying an ATB 840. :(

For a 150g + 40g sump heavily stock SPS tank, would you get the K2 or 840? Do you think the 840 is enough for my tank?

The 840 works, please don't get me wrong. However when it comes to higher end skimmers, or higher price tag skimmers I should say, I personally think the 840 leaves just a little to be desired compared to the competition.

I have no experience with any of the other ATB skimmers, just the 840, so I can't speak for other models.

The ATB works fine. It is on the same lines as the bk mini 160. Quiet and works well. Jon with the k2 pushed the envelope a little more with air draw numbers. and a little larger body and their bubble ring. The ATB 840 works well around 7 inches of water and is quite the performer with the larger pinwheel. It is different than the k2. The atb 840 is a consistant running quiet skimmer. The k2 works well too but is a little louder than the atb 840. You just to take in account what you are looking for in a skimmer and the size tank you are running. I could make the skimmate look however I want to in reviews if I wanted to by dosing different things. But I have always kept it the same so one skimmer will have the same playing field as another. not all the people on here realize that. What one person might say is soso. another will say it is the best thing since sliced bread.
Good luck to you all in your descisions.
but Jeremy already said previous he really liked the alpha and k2. it hard to talk up about something you are not impressed with. I mean myself I am not impressed by the alpha. I personally would by there in series over the alpha. and save some money. Every has their opinion. it is just who's do you believe or value more. They are all good products. and they will all do what they are suppose too. its a matter of splitting hairs.

I know I posted this in other Thread But you get to read it again LOL.
I can say that in 15 years plus in this hobby my WM K2 Cone is the best that I ever used.
Here is a list of skimmers that I have owned and what My thoughts are of them.
Red Sea Berlin Turbo SUCKS
Red Sea Berlin XL OK
ASM G-3 Protein Skimmer SO SO over rated
ETSS Deluxe Reef Devil Hard to tune in
ETSS Evolution 750 Works good but power hungry pump
ALS Predator Skimmer Works very good hold setting
ALS Predator 1 Works very good holds setting. Power Hungry
Amerclear triple bypass Works great
Turboflotor Skimmers SO SO
MRC MR-2 The worst skimmer I have Used Power Hungry pump, and had to tune many times a day to keep skimming.
I know I have had more but just can not think of them right now.

I was so sick and tired of my MRC-2 skimmer that I started to do some research on skimmer Company's. I called Gary at Champion lighting I know him Very well and been doing Business with him for more than 15 years. I asked him about many skimmers and about there company's. He said out of all the skimmers he sells he likes Warner Marine the best and the people that by them are very happy with WM. He all so told me that Jon was doing a Cone skimmer and to give him a call. So I did. Jon was great to talk with and I got a lot of info from him.
But I did call many company's and spoke to them all. Some where good talk with but many maid you feel like you did not know anything and would not listen to you. They would just tell you what they wanted to tell you. But Jon at WM listen and asked me many questions on my system. Then he gave me some good suggestions and said if I can wait for the K2 to come out it would be really good skimmer for my 180 heavily stock reef. I liked the fact that it only uses 21 watts to run the pump. My MRC-2 used 180 watts.
So I did more research on WM and on Cone skimmers.
What I do like about the K2 that other cones do not have is,
#1 Super adjustable US Made KBI Gate Valve, much better than a wedge pipe.
#2 Quiet and Vibration free, the K-2 rides on rubber feet for optimal noise/vibration isolation.
#3 The most elegant and refined use of the Italian made Sicce PSK-2500, custom CNC machined pump platform, union and a special CNC machined venturi. Includes a custom molded, balanced needle wheel impeller. This is the highest performance Sicce PSK-2500 needle wheel in the hobby, generating up to 1100 Liters per Hour of air flow.
#4 Collection cup drain pre-installed, at the time ATB did not have this.
#5 standard Air Silencer and .50” O.D.Silicone Air Hose.
#6 Highest Quality Cell Cast acrylic,
#7 CNC machined parts. Exceptional craftsmanship
#8 Easy to use CNC machined “Thread-Lock” collection cup release. No sticky or leaky O-ring friction necks.
#9 VBT- ”Bubble Ring” technology
#10 Customer service is #1
#11 new Pin wheel coming Soon to solve the backwards start that may happen at times. This happens with pin wheel and needle wheel skimmers. Not a big Deal.

I hope this helps you out.

I spooke to my friend from my Reef club this moring He told me that when he called Premium Aquatics they told him try to cut the air nozzle to mod it. He dose not like the wedge pipe it is way to lose. He will call me in a day or two to let me know how it goes.

have him tighten the compression screw on the wedge pipe, simple fix:D

thats not right, I am sure it is metric, I would be mad, they are including titanium compression screws now

He did not get the compression screw with the skimmer. He has one now from Lowe's.

He needs to contact the place of purchase and get the screw. It is indeed metric. By the way, he is the only person I have heard of that is having any types of issues that have been brought up here, with something missing, etc.

I believe the titanium set screw is only coming with the Alpha 300. All of the other models will have a nylon screw still. All other screws on the skimmer body and pump are still titanium all the way around though.
