Warner Marine Now Has A Pellet Product

I have decided to give ecoBak a shot... I have 1ml coming in the mail this week. I retrofited an old kalk reactor so i should be ready to roll. My tank currently is < 5ppm and I run GFO with no nuisance algea.

Do you think i should add all the 1ml at once?
Also, is my alk at 9.5dkh OK?

Well, I took the plunge and picked up a Little Fishies 550 reactor and 1000ml of pellets for my 160 total gallon system. I'm having to wipe my glass every day or two, and have some nuisance algae. I plan to run my GFO reactor for 4-6 weeks until the EcoBak is fully populated.

I tried to run it using a Maxijet 1200 but I'm not getting enough flow. What does everyone think about tee-ing off one of my return lines to feed it?

Thanks!

I run mine of my return manifold, no problem mon. :)

I am a big fan of teeing off the main pump via manifold. Saves on electricity and makes things more simplistic.

My question is, any of you running EB also running filter socks? If not what is your reason? If yes why?

I run bags as needed, mine tend to last about 1-2 days before blocking flow. Bags work great for cleaning up detritus from moving rock or sand. I even use one on return when i work on sump. (If I remember!) Also I notice skimmer stays much cleaner when running bags.

Thanks guys for your input on running the socks.
I like the idea of keeping detritus out of the sump as much as possible and that means the reactor as well.
I just thought that running the socks would take away from the EB pellets job.
I run a filter sock on my tank as well. Since going to the EB pellets I haven't had to change my sock more than normal.

Does anyone know if its safe to add all the 1lt of pellets? My nutrients are already low so I dont think i will see an algea bloom. My pellets will be here soon so would like some advice. Thanks!

Most guys have done it all at once. My thoughts and just my opinion is to go with 1/2 of the EB for a week then the other half a week later. Going slowly isn't a crime.
I of course am doing 250ml per week until I reach the whole 1 liter. I am upto 750ml and so far my phosphate is at 0ppm. Nitrates were around 15ppm at end of 2nd week. I will test again to see where Nitrates are by Sat.

Ultimately it is up to you.

I was dosing vodka and added 750ml all at one time and didn't see a bloom. IMO, I think if you were doing some type of carbon dosing or have low nutrient system, you won't see any algae bloom

OK, great ... My N03 are at 3ppm and not sure about Ph4 (waiting on my hanna) but I do run GFO and have no algae.

I'm going to start with 1/2 and add 1/4 each week... just in case, since i have a fully stocked system with sps and fish :) Thanks for the advice

I also run the socks have for years. After starting the EB had a slight bloom water was a little hazey. And the socks clogged pretty fast. Had to change out twice a day for about 2 days and around the third day was back to normal. And have seen others had the same thing happen. Just to let you know:)

Just got in my 1lt of ecobak and it is soaking overnight in RO water. I also picked up a hanna ph4 checker.

Here are my params as of tonight:

N03 - 3ppm
PH4 - .08

I will add 500 ml into my retrofited kalk reactor for a week and then add 250 ml each week thereafter

I will recheck params on a weekly basis. Wish me luck!

IMO the longer you stretch it out (Adding) Eco-Bak to your system the longer it will take to be effective. I have not seen or heard one negative thing from anyone using it correctly at the correct amount recommended. It actually was not effective until the amount used was correct for the Bio load IME in the system. Just my 2 cents as i have been using it for quite some time without and GFO/Phosguard and on the Hanna Phosphorus meter (PPB) I'm reading 004 this last test Which converts to 0.012 PPM if my math is correct

Its been about a month since i started using it. I went with the recommended amount since day one. 1lt in my case.

Its kinda weird. Yesterday I noticed the water was cloudy. I guess it took a month for this to kick in. Most people experienced this after a few days.
Ive been dosing vodka/Vinegar and will continue till i notice a change in my SPS. I don't test for P04 and N03. I can tell by looking at the corals. When they start getting too dark and or some brown in them, I know its time to up the vodka dose. Its how ive been doing this since I started dosing.

Im using a homemade reactor, 4 inch diameter, Mag Drive 2 pump, throlled back a little.
The pellets are tumbling pretty fast.

Hey Bill! We met once in Angela's house when I lived in Nashville, I'm the guy that had the 180 inwall build.

I am tempted to go with the full dose, but I want to avoid the bloom since i have some nutrients in the system: no3=3 ph4=.08

OK, guys so after soaking overnight I added 500ml this morning. There is no tumbling, just burst on one side of the reactor. I am wondering if this reactor is too big since it is a retrofited kalk reactor. I am running about 350gph through it. The reactor is 6" and 20" tall.

Do they tumble right away, or does it take a bit of aging?
