Warner Marine Now Has A Pellet Product

Well I've put approximately 500ml into a Next Reef reactor removed the foam and put the plastic canvas in it. the main problem that i see is that the Next Reef has only two holes for water to exit underneath the plastic canvas and this causes the water to channel in my WM bio pellets.

I'm pretty sure that the pellets will work anyways but I would say that the Next Reef reactor is far from ideal for running bio pellets.

are you using an SMR1 or an MR1? My SMR1 keeps my ecoBak on constant boil. I'm not getting any channeling

I have a mr1 and my pellets are on constant boil. I use a maxijet 1200 on it. This is a new setup for me, as i have a TLF reactor on my other tank, and i can never get even flow through the reactor, as a result; my pellets mostly churn on one side of the reactor.

not the case with the mr1, i get good even flow. it's been about a week with it, so we will see if that changes.

Probably not enough flow to keep them fully suspended. What pump are you using? I run the SMR1 and they tumble nicely. You'll find the pellets will get pushed up on the sides where most of the flow enters the chamber and will fall in the middle, creating a "churning" effect. I run 1L of pellets and have found the more pellets in the reactor the better, it allows for a more even tumble.

Good points on everything. I probably need to increase my flow I'm running a marine land pump only rated for 250 gallons maxi jet 900. Probably need to increase it to a pump that's rated for three to four hundred. There still is some tumbling just not the whole media. I think it's going to work as it is. But if I don't get the results I want will increase pump.:o

i use a mr1 and it was only flowing on one side. i had to take the center tube out and drilled 2 more holes on the sides that had none and now i have good flow all around. i'm using a mj 1200 turned down a little with 500-600ml of pellets.

Thanks for the suggestion I think I'm going to have to drill mine out also. Why couldn't the factory have done such an obvious mod?

I just upgraded my reactor to the mr1 and had the same issue. And drilled two more holes as well. You could get them tumbling with out the holes but it took way to much flow.

help with ECOBAK

help with ECOBAK

I have a 200 gal system, 125 DT - 40 fuge - 75 sump. System is just over one year old with SPS / LPS and some softies with a Copperband, PB and Yellow tang, two perculas, one bangai cardinal, and rabbit fish.

Use RO/DI - TDS - 0 confirmed at two LFS, just to make sure my meter was correct. Make 25 gal WC every two weeks. Don't believe I over feed (famous last words).
Just picled up WM ECOBAK ULNS pellets (1000 ml) planned on using it in my dual BRS reactor. Currently running GFO and GAC. I emptied the GAC and filled it up with the ECOBAK - my first problem - all the pellets won't fit into the reactor, using about 80%.

Is that a problem?

I'm using a RIO 800 pump to run the reactor getting little or no tumble of pellets. I switched the GFO reactor and placed the pellet reactor first and the GFO second, Is that OK or should I split the pelletes between the two reactors and not run GFO?

One important item - I struggling with hair algae, none on sand only on rocks, I'm pulling it out by the handful.

Any recommendations and suggestions is appreciated.

I have been using the Warner Pellets for 2 1/2 months. Nitrate and PO4 (PO4 tested with Hanna meter) are 0. All corals have colored up and are growing better than ever. It's a 75 gallon reef with 120 total water volume.

I never had a problem with cyno until using this product. Red (on the rocks) and brown (on the sand) are a constant battle.

I am using a AquaC 180 skimmer with a Eheim 1262 pump.
http://www.proteinskimmer.com/Product Pages/EV180.htm

The outflow from the reactor is directed into the intake of the skimmer pump.

Do I need to upgrade my skimmer"”is cyno a symptom of a "too small skimmer"?

I am thinking about using Red Slime Remover but am not sure how it will effects the pellets. It says on the label it won't harm bacteria.

Opinions please

Thank....

Well guys, i have taken the pellets offline after a few months. My once beautiful and stable reef has gone down-hill sine adding the pellets. Even though nutrients have decreased, I have experienced some bleaching and browning.

I know that many have had success, so i wont bash the pellets. They just didn't workfor me.

So, r u going back to dosing?

Hey Jack, Sorry to hear that you had a bad experience with the EB. After many months of use i found that some Nitrate and Po4 around 0.036 ppm is where my tank has leveled off without any other help except running carbon. I had some loss of color at first but all has come back to the level i had when dosing Vodka with none of the work.
See what happens with your issues and if they remain maybe it's something other than the EB that is causing them? But best of luck to you and have a great Christmas with your family and friends.

Hi Bill,

Thanks for the great wishes, same to you!

All my parameters are in check and have been consistent. All I can think of is my T5 bulbs are old, 1yr this month. Also, my salinity was at 1.27 for a while but it was gradually lowered. I really doubt those had anything to do with the tank degrading. No lifestock has been added in quite some time .... way before EB. We will see, I was trying to ride it out but i had to pull the plug.

Do you think i can sell used EB media? I have 1lt soaking in RO.

Where do your alk levels sit?

Exactly. Don't employ husbandry based on this or that theory. Go with what actually works for your system. Get things where they need to be then fine tune on the basis of need. I've seen too many systems go down as a result of the caretaker's adherence to some specified dogma. Understand that dynamic systems are in a simple way 'dynamic', which means they are ever changing. Vigilance is necessary in a "read and react" type scenario, which may or may not require that the caretaker step outside his philosophic comfort zone from time to time in order to make adjustments for the good of the system.

Late on this comment, but very well stated.

after battling many different alge's over the past year, i tore my tank down.
Now I'm in the process of setting up a new 80 gallon tank,
and i was wanting to plumb this into my system as i built it.

my question is, Has anyone run EB from the start/beginning of a tank?

I'm doing it now. I think my tank is coming up on 3 months old
