Warner Marine Now Has A Pellet Product

well, latest update. seem like i will loose my brown birdnest. it has not improve much since monday. it shows more white skeleton around the colony. my other sps and lps are doing good nothing change on them except better PE and color. tested water again after readjust all level magnesium is still low but everthing else is in good range. PH a bit high at 8.5 so iam little concern. i will not dose Kalk for the next couple days so PH will go down. i never have any cloudy water condition with the pellets.

I just inherited a small birdsnest colony (Seriatopora) tonight (not sure why this keeps happening). I'll report how it does.

Actually I'd be a little more suspicious of a serious pop in coralline growth. Some systems are just Mg black holes.

Yeah, that's possible or it could be both. My point was that the pellets aren't directly causing the Mg decrease & 1100 level is a non issue.

DJREEF one of is confused probably me but just incase. When the sun goes down we have night. This happens once a day so then we have tonight. And it will hopefully keep happening for a very long time. :) Now since I am the one that is probably confused what keeps happening?

No, I wasn't wondering why night keeps happening. I was wondering why I keep inheriting these Seriatopora/Stylophoras that don't do worth a crap in my setup.

FWIW,Maroaglae in my system slows it's growth at low PO4 levels( under 0.1ppm) but stays healthy as long as the PO4 is at or above 0.03ppm; usually .04 or .05ppm in my system.
While you can grow pods and other fauna without macro; it is very useful for night time oxygenation, imo.
Have no idea why seriatopora would be uniquely harmed by the by products/ reactions form pellet use .Perhaps ,their symbiont bacteria react in a pathogenic way to the sugars if any are in the water. Or maybe ,they just don't adjust well to variable N levels.
Anecdotally some knowlegable reefers have noted seriatopora sensitivity to high NO3 in the past,so I suppose in a bit of a reach that the reverse,ie rapidly lower N might stress them at least until they aclimate.FWIW. mine do very well with very low but steady NO3(<0.2 ppm) and PO4( 0.04ppm),almost 2yrs into dosing vodka and vinegar.

well its going on 3 months
and all i have to add is my coraline algae has bloomed, sps still doing well.
im having to clean my glass 2wice a week, have only one problem, red algae on my sand bed.the tank has been running for 9yrs without any red algae.
i tried to get some pottassium nitrate from ebay but canada wont let it through customs, got sent back,im going to try my pharmasist ,see what he can do. ive dosed microbactor 7 now for 3 weeks.
a couple weeks ago i watched the red algae lift off the sand, i siphoned it all up but then slowly came back again.
i think if i cant get the pottassium nitrate im going to try the redslime remover.

has anyone tried the redslime remover with the pellets.

vic

Isn't redslime removers a type of antibiotic? I don't think I would touch it in a system that is driving higher levels of bacteria.

so, iam in the 4th week of biopellet. my birdnest is not completely bleach or die, but i start to notice my acan is receding. my PH has been swinging since using biopellet (vary between 8.1 to 8.5 or higher). and my alk, magnesium is not stable. i run 250 ml of biopellets for a 50 gallons system. does anyone have this issue? my sump was cracked so i move everything into a plastic container since. Could this is a source of the problem? i did not change my reef keeping routine since change to biopellet. water paremeter had always stable before. Does anyone have any suggestions? thanks.

For those have used Vodka, sugar or vinegar and now use BioPellets, how would you compare the outcome (assuming you've been using the pellets for more than a month)?

I have been using them before the release to the public and i also dosed Vodka for many years. IME the pellets are superior in several ways, Convenience being #1 and the long term cost #2 then down to the fact that they work as advertised IMO my Po4 is very low 0-4 PPB i no longer test for Nitrate as it always shows 0 and i do not want to get in the formula trap that seems to be the trend as of late. My tank looks as good as it did when using Vodka and i do none of the work i did before other than the occasional test with the Hanna meter to verify my readings. IME the key is let it have the time it takes to colonize the pellets and have the proper amount for your bio load and let then work.

Hey Bill,

How much do you feed, and how much roughly, dry weight, per day.

Feed?

Feed?

DJ, I have around 12 fish the largest is a Powder Brown Tang 4-5" range and all others are about 2" and i feed mainly home made Fish Mush (Approx 2 cubes worth) Plus a 1/2 sheet of Nori daily and the occasional toss of some pellet food for a snack or flake. I also feed my SPS 2X a week with either Reef Chile or Cyclopeese and Amino acids. FYI the Fish Mush has all fresh seafood and lots of good stuff in it also, If you would like i can send you a list of all the ingredients and a quick how to on making your own.

Thanx Bill, that'd be cool. I have my own formula I worked up from years ago, but I could always use more ideas where foods are concerned. I gotta throw together a new batch pretty soon.

Well I've put approximately 500ml into a Next Reef reactor removed the foam and put the plastic canvas in it. the main problem that i see is that the Next Reef has only two holes for water to exit underneath the plastic canvas and this causes the water to channel in my WM bio pellets.

I'm pretty sure that the pellets will work anyways but I would say that the Next Reef reactor is far from ideal for running bio pellets.
