Water clarity

How old is your tank again? Diatoms are a normal part of a full cycle if its young. One day they just seem to go away once they burn themselves out.

I upgraded to this tank 9 months ago I had diatoms in the beginning then none for months and now going nuts. I have done tons if upgrades recently to make the tank better but it is worse .. New sump, New lights, new controllable wp25 controlled by new reef controller, new skimmer and now carbon/phosban reactor(ordered phosban today to add tomorrow) and after all of this it looks like garbage hopefully reactor changes the game

Didn't see it though the post but can you post all your water params please? If its a hazy look and you've been doing vacume and water changes and carbon then you more than likely have a bacteria bloom and just need to give it time to go away..... I think all else has been covered already so I would suggest post your water parameters.

Its like dust from my sand I vacumm it and vacuum it seriously I have taken 25 gallons in of water out of the tank while siphoning sand and it is still dusty the root cause is my addition of the wp 25 because I can't find a mode that doesn't bother my sand and gives me good flow. Currently running nutrient export @85% I had terrible flow for a long time and never vacuumed sand so I am guessing this dust is a combination of sand dust and organics that settled in my sand Is there some better method to clean sand?

pH is 8.1
Dkh is 9.8
Calc 440
mag 1390
Nitrate/Nitrite negligible
Need to test my Phosphates but the test will lie because I have an algae bloom and I grow cheato

Alright now I am getting pi******* off this is getting worse not better I turned down my wp25 from 85% to 60% added a gfo/carbon reactor (reactor is running phosgaurd until my gfo comes in tomorrow) and marineland GAC. Ordered more new sump socks and salt to do more water changes but seriously I've done over 150% water changes in the past two weeks any additional input would be great seriously contemplating shutting the while system down and saying f!!!! It also skimmer is not skimming at all it is new and at first it was skimming like.mad now nothing

Whooa! Don't give up man, lets get a team over to your place to have a look. I bet your skimmer isn't working due to the 150% new water lol. Sounds like the sand is the problem, but hard to tell without seeing it. Also, if the sand isn't new, and this just cropped up from the addition of the wp, then sounds like detritus is being released from the bed. If that's the case, it will cease if you can run say a canister filter with floss, socks, HOB filter, etc. Keep filtering.

Got skimmer working again air adjustment was messed up not going to give up just got home from 30 hrs of snow removal to more snow in my tank frustrating to say the least

Skimmer on the fritz again have a call into pro line about it also added a wp40 and put it in anti sync with the 25 have awesome flow throughout the tank and my sand is not drifting any more BUT it has stirred up boat loads of dust off the rocks so clarity wise I am worse off I need to find a way to clear this water before I loose my mind going to do a 25% change tonight but I was wondering if anyone had a canister filter I could borrow to see if that would help I want to set one up with 2 layers of floss then maybe a poly pad and then a 100 micron fabric then maybe even a polishing pad. Thought's?

Are you using filter socks on your drain?

And dude, IMO, your wasting your time and salt with all these water changes...

Poly pad isn't gonna do jack squat for you, your wasting your money. I would like to know why you wana use that. And canister filters are useless and junk.

You did a good thing my adding flow. Start using a filter sock if you haven't.

If you don't have a sump, you should. With a Filter sock, unless you have mad flow, and a grossly oversized skimmer.

I am running a sock bought a two pack + 1 I had changing every 3 days its just not getting better

20x20x15 5 chamber sump with a vertex omega 130 skimmer

Total water volume is 73 gallons

What kind of sock/micron? Is your issue free floating detritus or cloudy water due to algae or bacterial bloom?

Again, what is your cloudy water issue? Detritus, or bloom of sorts?

Ok sorry, I didn't give you time to respond lol

What is your return pump and how much turnover are you getting for your display volume per hour?

I don't have another spare inch in the sump or I would add uv skimmer is off today because when I change my filter sicks it freaks out and doesn't stop till I do a water change also as a side note I can't get my pH above 8 to save my life and starting yesterday I was getting diatoms on my sand bed although mostly gone today after adding wp40

If it is in fact detritus, STOP with the damn water changes, lol. Your not gonna accomplish anything with those...

And how about some pics. It's can be easier to help you with pics.
