water level question

I have a question about how low the top of the grill should be. The lowest level on my overflow leaves about 3 inches of glass showing under the rim. My way of thinking that is too low.
Deep Blue does include a part (see photo) that you can attach to the inside of the weir to raise the level of the bottom up higherand can go high enough close the weir off completely.
What is the rule of thumb on where to set the water level ? I want to use a Bean over system.

Most tanks will run fine with a water level even with or SLIGHTLY above the top plastic rim. Your pump will have something to do with this too.

Yeah to run 4" below the top due to my standing wave. Doesn't look great when not on wave mode, but during the day nothing looks sweeter that corals swaying with the waves

I am wondering how that wave maker is going to affect the open line on the Bean.
Also in irregular splash on the spillway over the weir. Anyone have first hand knowledge on that?

My drains are located such that when the water is at its lowest they still drain. If your overflow is to one end I could certainly see an uneven draining problem
