Water options?

So I think I'm about ready to fill my tank, just curious what you guys would suggest for my initial fill of 40g? I know there is the Pet Barn in Manteca that sells SW, also Kalypso is not far.

Or just buy my own distilled water and mix it myself?

I would buy ro water. Or buy a ro/di unit before you fill it. I don't think you need or want distilled.

I would mix it up personally. Just get 40gals of RO/DI water and buy some salt.

Right now I believe a few LFS in the area is selling buckets of Seachem Reef Salt for around $35 ea. It's really one heck of a deal. Especially when starting a new tank and having the initial "cycled" water which you want to eventually change out.

I recommend possibly purchasing a RO/DI system and just filter the water yourself in the future or when the budget permits. I found it more convenient and also gives you the piece of mind knowing the filters are cleaned and changed appropriately.

What area of Manteca do you stay around Josh? Fernando (Fern68) lives in Manteca and can possibly loan a hand whenever possible I would think. I also frequent the area ;) since I work in Modesto and live in Stockton. I can also lend a hand and maybe some RO/DI water if you need some. Just bring the containers :)

Thanks! I had looked into buying an RO/DI unit, just seemed a big investment to begin with, so for the time being I thought I would just buy the water I needed and then see how it goes:)

I am just off of 120 in Manteca, by Costco. I might take you up on the offer of the help/water, once I figure out the best way to lug 40g around:lol: I can't even imagine if I was trying to fill a 150 or 200g tank:eek2:

Another quick question if anyone wants to chime in:) Any thoughts on how far from the wall I should put the aquarium/stand? I don't want to get it too close then realize I don't have room to run something after it's already filled with water.

It's an AIO tank, so the only thing I can think of needing to go down the back would be tubing/electrical, just want to make sure!

IMO a Ro/DI is the best investment(besides a controller) that you can make for your tank or tanks... I lugged water jugs up and down stairs and to and from my trucks for years until I finally bought a ro/di like 6-7yrs ago...Money well spent... You don;t need to buy a fancy expensive one buy a 100gpd 5 or 6stage unit off Ebay for around $100 and you'll be happy you did... If not now after you topoff and do enough water changes I'm sure you'll eventually want one.. Plus I've checked the RO water that most places sell and it's no where near clean the last one I checked was like 55ppm... to much junk in it for me... If you can get 30 or so gallons from a local reefer that is doing a water change thats even better because it will help start your tank cycling and give you some beneficial bacteria for your system.. I'd hook you up if I was closer

Air Water Ice has some RODI units with some great reviews.
I believe they are sponsors to this forum so you may even dig up discount codes.

Thanks guys, I will most likely get one soon, just killed the budget this month by ordering a MP10:)

RiOnRoxXx and Fernando have been generous enough to offer BRING me enough RO/DI water for my initial fill. Is that awesome or what?!
