Water temp calculation question

This may have been asked before but couldn't find it.

Side note not a math or thermodynamic genius. Also understand I should heat my water to the tank water temp before doing a water change. But.... I live in AZ and this is only a problem for maybe a month or two. Most of the time it's too hot!

So the question is...

If I add 6 gallons of 74 deg water to 44 gallons of 78 degree water what is the final temp?

The water change is 12% and the water temp is 3% cooler.

To make it simpler let's say 10% water change at 3% temp difference. That's 1/5 at 3% less.

3% if 1/5 is 0.6. So temp would only change maybe 1 degree?

I might be losing my mind or overthinking this.

Definitely overthinking it...

Add the new water over the course of 30 minutes or so...your heater (or perhaps, chiller, in your case) will take up the slack no problem...

My heaters kick on at <79 degrees and kick off at >80...I have 1 degree fluctuations all day, every day...

Temp a times gallons a plus temp b times gallons b. The divide by total gallons.

(6x74+44x78)/50

Think of it this way. You have 50 gallons of water, and you're taking the average of all their temperatures.
