Water Temp Survey

Having temperature swing issues due to this hot weather. My question is what temperature does everyone keep their coral tanks at?

Ok, thanks for all the responses! Mine was swing from 78 to 84 so I just purchased a 1/2 HP chiller. I hated to do it, but the large shop fan blowing across the water surface just wasn't cutting it. I felt the temperature swing was a bit much for the corals, and ended up losing several birds nest frags. They seem to be the only ones affected SO FAR (fingers crossed). Once the chiller gets installed, I was going to set it at 80 to start and slowly bring the temperature down to 78 over a couple weeks...

What do u keep for corals what such big swings?

To be honest I'm not even sure exactly what they are, I got a bunch when that lady in pinellas, (Laura I think??) took her business down. But i got a good mix of stuff. Normal softies, GXp, anthelia, birds nests, plate corals, probably about 5 or 6 different sps, some zoas. My sps grows slow but it's cause I'm too lazy to do calc.

I should prob take a pic sometime to get ID help.

If you look at real oceans sometimes the tide drops and corals are left exposed to air. Sometimes pools of water get to be over 90 degrees. I've seen and read about many tanks hitting 86 frequently with no problems. I know its best to be stable but anything under 86 short term should not be a big deal.

If all things where equal, then swings would be ok like the natural reef can handle them.

But things are not equal and events must be kept to a minimal.

We try our best to be gods with our worlds, but we can only control how long till we get slap by nature.
