Wavemaker Pump Question

I think it is just a standard 6100 stream, but a newer one with a small black power supply instead of the round thing and metal box. I noticed that I was getting very little flow out of the pump, so I took it all apart to clean off any deposits. When I put it back together, the prop does not spin right. It starts spinning - maybe 2-3 turns, stops for a fraction of a second, and then repeats again over and over again. Because of this, it is putting out almost no flow. I can't see any calcium deposits. Is there anything I can do or does it need to be sent in for service.

So I just "borrowed" an impeller from another 6100 and it does the same thing. The problem must be with the pump. I didn't see any differences between them (was looking for maybe a missing piece).

The 6212 pump is basically "hybrid", the motor and impeller from a 6201 and the power supply of a 6101. I would suspect the same if cleaned already per the instructions in the stickied post at the top of the forum. I do not believe a faulty power supply could cause it. Roger will be back on Monday if you prefer to wait and see if he can offer any advice or if you want to get a jump on it you can send it in to him. Be sure to include your name and return address along with a email or phone number.

When you did the cleaning, did you remove the rear bushing and the oring? If you did make sure both pieces sit properly or else your pump will not run right or the alarm will goes off. Also be careful with the upper bearing. If you put it in wrong, it will also become an issue.

Are your testing it with or without a controller? It could be a broken pump, it could be stuck in "fish care" mode if you are using a controller. It could also be overheating the powersupply. A wavebox pump can use 60W at peak draw, the power supply is 50W. It works for the wavebox because it is switched off before it ever needs 60W and the average draw is about 30W. To run the pump continuously you need to either downsize to a 6100.70 drive unit to lower the wattage to about 38W or upsize the power supply to the 110W 6300.240. It could also be a dirty bearing as Steve mentioned.
