Wayne's 'Rainforest of the Sea'

Great work Wayne. This is going to be a stunning tank to say the least.

I can't imagine the "pucker factor" while drilling those two bulkhead holes. WOW!!

Might I suggest you look into the GHL Mitras for lighting? There are several Canadian sources where you should be able to get them and they are very sleek and UBER powerful in a nice small form factor. Would be a great fit for this modern clean build.

Equipment:

Water Treatment: Aquasafe Canada 7-stage RO/DI
Lighting: 6x54W ATI Powermodule w/ DIY LED supplementation
Return Pump: Eheim Compact 5000+
Flow: 2x Ecotech Mp40es, Tunze 6085
Skimmer: CSC-250 (Formerly Skimz SK-201 w/ Sicce PSK pump)
Controller: Neptune Apex w/ WXM module
Doser: Marine Magic Triple Pump doser w/ Bubble Magus Chambers
ATO: JBJ ATO system w/ Custom reservoir
Reactors: Vertex UF-150 w/ Carbon
Reactor feed pump: MaxiJet 1200

I like the inspiration photos... Excited to see what you end up doing :) Keep us posted Wayne :)

Will do!

This should be a nice addition to the Canadian team :)

Glad to join!

Thank you very much and I sure hope so! I am going with T5 lighting as the best tanks I have seen always seem to be T5 lit. I have used AI Sols in the past and did not like them so I am going to see how T5s go.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well after making tons of progress and headway, I overtightened the bulkheads inside the overflow and the bottom pane of the tank cracked! Who knew plastic could compress glass enough to crack!
At first it looked fixable as the crack started from the holes and extended to the corners of the overflow but as I loosened off the second bulkhead, 'POP!!'. The crack extended the width of the tank. To make matters worse the tank was full of about 80 gallons of water panic ensued to get the tank drained before it busted completely.
Tank was basically completely plumbed when this happened so I will have to see what I can manage to save and reuse.. and worst of all is I have to be up for work in 4hrs! JOY!

BAD day to say the least!

If there is any positive to this it is that I get to start designing a nice new custom made baby now.

Well new tank has been ordered and should be here within a few weeks.. Crossing my fingers. If anyone wants the old one with the cracked bottom for cheap, PM me.
While we wait for the tank to get here I thought I would keep the thread alive with some new equipment photos.

For the first time ever (im assuming) on ReefCentral, the CSC-250 protein skimmer. CSC (Canadian Skimmer Company) came about from heaps of users wanting the amazing build quality in the Skimz body but with a better pump, so 'Aqua Digital' went to Skimz and got them under ours and various end users guidence produced an OEM version of the SK181 SK201 and SK251. The results were impressive! Much greater performance and pretty much silent. But hey this is a Sicce pump we are talking about. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j70KR...1&feature=plcp

Sorry to hear about the tank cracking. Hopefully you'll be able to reuse most of the equipment you were planned.

What's your plan for the new tank?

Ugh thats brutal. I know the pain all too well. 2 years ago I dropped a 162g rimless only 3 feet away from its stand. Then went outside to a $200 parking ticket on my car! that was an expensive day lol.

At least you have a beer to ease the pain! Love the CDN pride on top of that skimmer

Sorry to hear of the setback mate, glad you didn't let it slow your plans down - will be watching your progress.

Then new tank will be very similar to this one, only the overflow box will be off-center to the right side and a little larger to accompany the return through the bottom of it, thus no holes in the back of the tank for returns, and it will have eurobracing.

It definately sucks, but I basically ordered the new tank the next day and have been told it will be here in a week and a half which would be awesome. Thing I am most upset about it how I basically had the thing plumbed with shed. 80 PVC from BRS when this happened and didnt use unions like I should have.. needless to say the $60 gate valve and a few other fittings are going to waste! :angryfire:

I cannot wait to get this bad boy in water and fired up.. Got it the day the tank cracked and was mighty dissappointed!

Glad to have you here. :)

These are a few renderings of what I am having built. Very similar to what I had before, only the return is through the overflow and not the back wall & the overflow is off of center. Oh, and it will be eurobraced.

A few updates of things of done while waiting..

Here is the set up as it sits.. everything ready to go!

Put up the light fixture last night. I am going with a 6x 54W ATI Powermodule because in my opinion, the most gorgeous tanks are run with T5s. So I am going to try them out!
