Anemones for life
So my uncles Ocellaris have laid eggs for a bit now, and he decided he would maybe see if he could grow out some of fry just to see if he could do it

so we went and met up with the owner of Rod's Food to get some rotifer stock up and get some knowledge how to do this stuff, and the next batch of eggs my uncle has gotten some pretty good results so far..

its been just nearly under 36 hours and there is still a decent amount alive.. and here's the pictures..

ANY ADVICE IS APPRECIATED IT!!! =D

here's the home to the pair.. its become quite desolate as the clowns have destroyed everything in the tank, and made it their own, so he stopped putting corals in there.. these clowns are sooo aggressive, 100% the mose aggressive oc's ive ever seen.. they killed off crabs/snails/emerald crabs/urchins... any coral that gets put in the tank gets thrown into the sand.. haha and dont dare stick your hand in the tank..

right now what we can count there is roughly 20-30..
 
ya, i tell my uncle daily.. that the btas need help, and he just doesnt beleive me, i argue with him all the time about it and tell him to spot feed them and i tell him it keeps splitting because its stressed from some reason..

*i would like to just add haha i was only there to take pictures and help document it.. this is his tank and i tell him all the time about how unhealthy his BTA's are.
 
From the look of the tank, I expect the nitrates and phosphates are high. Water changes, protein skimming, and regularly changing activated carbon would likely make a big difference. If your uncle doesn't believe you, perhaps he will believe me and other posters here on RC who know those BTAs are suffering.
 
ive been telling him to also spot feed them from time to time.. they actually look a little bit better then what they use to.. they were definantly being starved badly the tentacles were almost gone and they were alot whiter... but i agree with you 100% haha i think its just a age thing.. cause im younger than him so he doesnt think i know what im talking about but ive kept many bta's... and im on the anemone forum quite alot reading so i try to tell him haha
 
ive even told him to let me take the BTA's to nurse em back to health but he said no cause he wants to do it now ha
 
Reef1589, I am not a clown expert or anything but from what I do know I am almost 100% sure that those are not Ocellaris clownfish. They look more like true perculas clowns then anything and in fact one of them almost looks like it has some black onyx in it. If my hunch is correct then they are double the value of the regular ocellaris but on the down side they will take about twice as long to mature. Either way the clowns are beautiful and I'm sure will produce some nice offspring.
 
I have no heard that but that doesn't mean its not true, But what I do know is that ocellaris normally do not have that much black around the fins or rest of the body for that matter. normally its just a vary vary thin black line around the white part of the fish.

I vary well could be wrong but it doesn't really matter they are great looking fish either way.
 
Well, at least you're trying to guide your uncle in the right direction with the anemones. I hope he listens.

Look more like percs to me, as mentioned, black on ocellaris tends to be very thin lines.
 
hrm interesting, im not saying either of you are wrong, because i am by means no clownfish expert at all, i was just always led to beleive that percula had a very crisp eye..from a few clownfish breeders..

but if they are indeed onyx percula that would be nice haha :) i hope more people chime in on this.
 
I am saying occ. my occ. clowns have just as much black on them, of course they didn't used to until they started going in to the BTAs
 
I am no expert but I think they are percs too.

What type of lighting does your uncles tank have? The nems are bleached.

Im not saying its an onyx, but your male (i believe) looks like it could be an onyx, but your female I think is all percula. I don't know I'm pretty interested to know if someone knows for sure what they are. If putting your ocellaris with anemones give them such dark color I'm going to give all my clowns an anemone.

I hope no one is taking my observation as being rude or anything else, Its just I have never seen an ocellaris like these and I'm pretty interested in them as well if they are infact ocellaris.
 
Captive bred fish? Looks like ocellaris/percula cross to me. Body shape and color say perc, but the eyes say ocellaris.

nono im not taking anything rudely, nor is my uncle, haha :) ive just met with a few clownfish breeders and they had always informed me the eye trick, Murky eyes = Oc's, Cleaner Crisp Eye = Perc ... but they could be what illcssd said, maybe oc/perc cross after so many breedings from a breeder..

i beleive my uncle bought the pair from a LFS as a mated pair of ocellaris...


and yes ralee we know the nems are bleached that was already established.
they are kept under a 150W HQI Metal Halide 20k bulb. they are currently being somewhat nursed back to normal health.
 
Just thought id do an update... we've have a few die off.. but still got alot of suvivors so far.. starting to color up.. i think? .. imo they are.. some have alot of black idk if this is because of hte male or if this is how they always are.. (this is our first time doing this so idk if their tail fin are normally black as babies)

FWIW, IME dark percs (onyx) will very often have a muddy ocellaris-like eye. On the other hand I have never seen an ocellaris that had black joining two white stripe together like in your female.
