We need nfo on changing over tanks 55g to 220g

Thanks Rob. Great idea, but we got lucky and are actually putting the tank on the other side of the room. I was hoping not to have to run both just to save on the electric that month. I think we will do ok. I feel more confident hearing everyones stories and advice.

Another question. I know Steve said he put sand then rock, but I have heard the rock is less likely to be undermined if you put it down first and put the sand around it. I even thought about using 1'' pieces of PVC to put the rocks on then put the sand around them to hide the PVC. Good Idea...Bad Idea??? How is everyone else's done?

I don't have any sand ,but that's not for everyone. I like the way sand looks in the tank, but it is easier for my this way. Ted

I have seen set ups where they used pvc pipe and/or eggcrate to make shelves that the rocks sat on - all hidden by sand - less likely to rocks to shift that way if you have burrowing critters

all my lr is sitting down in or on the sand - even with a very busy pistol shrimp and noticable sand shifts I have been lucky - but it is possible for the sand to shift and a rock to fall

Good luck - waiting for pics

I normally do sand first then when I add the bottom rocks I spin them back and for until it reaches the glass. it is hard to set the rock in and make it stay where you want without sand to help support some edges. this time I only put sand in the front half of the tank where I know there is plenty of flow. I have none behind the rocks so it doesn't become a nutrient sink.

Hey Ted, yeah they got it, I just got back not to long ago helping them get it from St Cloud, what a trip!!! And it poured its as* off on the way home, we couldnt even see 10 feet ahead of us, very bad. But there prob setting it up as I type!!! They were very excited and its a awsome tank, and a nice fit in there house. Cant wait till they get it filled up and host a meeting ;) hint hint!!!

But to answere ya question, yes they got it home safe and sound!!! There prob having fun putting it in place and all that, the new tank emotions!! LOL :)

We got it all in last night. In order to allow the protien skimmer to fit under the stand we had to build a frame to raise the stand about 2 inches. We are going to be doing the plumbing today to get some sand in and let it start cycling. I am expecting the protien skimmer around the end of the week.

We will get with you at the end of the week Ted to get those 50 gallon drums from you if we can borrow them.

We are very excited about it. It looks good. Takes up a whole wall in the living room. I turned the lights on to check them out last night and WOW!!! We about lit up the neighbors yard too. LOL!!

PICS PICS PICS!!!! WE NEED PICS :D hahaha now I get to do that to someone else, people are always doing that on my thread!!!

Make sure ya camera has some good batteries in it for now on.....

Hey did I mentions PICS!!!! :) empty tanks stand appart doesnt matter!!!LOL ;)

Good luck on that plumbing today......

So...here they are PICS, PICS, PICS!!!

It is all glass. We got it filled last night around 11:00. I am picking uo filter socks today and the skimmer hopefully will be here by the end of the week. Do the socks reduce the noise of the water flowing into the sump? Right now it sounds like I am constantly running a bath in my house. LOL

when did all glass start making a 220? might want to check that to be sure. I vote 210 but still just as cool of a tank.
reefer do you have the pipes under water in the sump? if so I think the socks may help a little. if they are under water you need vents for them or they will vacuum the water out of your overflows and create alot of noise. until it breaks a vacuum and then it will fill up and start over. pretty nasty sounding if you ask me but some people are perfectly happy with it.
