We need nfo on changing over tanks 55g to 220g

Can you post pics of the plumbing under the stand??:D

ALSO, make sure if you cut the side of the stand your not going to jeopardize the structual integrity of the stand, than youll have a BIG mess on your hands

The plumbing is not done the way it will be when it is complete. I will try to post pics when we get back from John's moms house. We probably won't worry about the external pump then. I don't want to risk getting 210 gallons of sant water all over the floor in my livingroom. :D

Welp If you do an internal pump your running a big risk of a heat issue, a pump that big to run that tank for SPS is going to produce some heat, DONT rush with this cause you might regret it in the future. You dont want to get a chiller I remember you saying, well with the lights, pump, power heads or Tunzes you might need to get one. Maybe not, but you dont want to run that risk when everything is done. I think Rob will agree with me on this...what int pump are you using now?? My tank runs at 83 almost 84 during the day and most of my stuff is ext pumps and my Tinzes produce VERY low heat transfer....Plus my canopy is wide open on the top and back of it, your in inclosed except for a little area in the back...

Im just trying to save you a HEADACHE in the future!!

Also remember that everything is in your stand also with not the greates air flow, make sure you have some FANS on hand but running alot of fans might be loud....

Mike's right about cutting that stand. I had to get a sump out from under my 125. I almost lost the whole thing. I had to drain the tank down ,and brace the stand to be able to cut the side panel. If you want to drain the tank down ,you can use the drums I have. LMK Ted

So far the tank has been running around 80. We will have 2 sedra 5000 on the skimmer and then the tunzes or sieo's. I am thinking about clipping a small desk fan under the stnd to help cool the water surface down there and blow the heated air out the back. I figured it can't hurt and the fan will be cheap enough I will probably do it no matter whether we go internal or external. I will talk to John and let you know about the drums. Thanks again Ted.

OK seriously, if you running around 80 already and you are going to be adding 2 more bigger pumps for the skimmer and P.H.;s than ya going to be close..I hate to keep bringing the negative into this but Im giving you my HONEST opinion. I took almost 3 months to put mine all together and read almost 2 months of stuff. So just be patiance and everything will work out. Ya should read the 1st page of my 180 thread, everyone was telling me to REDA READ READ and take it slow, and im VERY happy I listened.

Have you been running your lights all day like you would if you had corals in there? If NOT than remember the heat from that, that canopy is not a air venting frendly top!! :D You can always make it one though :D

There are 2 fans already mounted hanging down from the back of the canopy and the back of the canopy is wide open to let it vent a little.

Yes, we have been running the lights for 6 - 7 hrs a day. Not as long as when we add the corals, but it has been on. The temp changes less then a degree from when the lights are on to when they are off.

I am going to call Ted and the glass drilling guy tonight and see if we can set up having the glass done this weekend. That gives us Friday night to drain the tank and if he can drill it Sat. morning, I can get the pump Sat. and can have the tank back together Sat. night. I will then pick up the rest of my rock Sun. and put it in then and give it a week to see about adding the stuff from the 55 the following weekend as planned still. That will all depend on if the rock is cycled by then.

pumps

pumps

from my experience the sequence pumps are much quieter than the dolphins and they dont seem to have the problem dolphins have with some of them leaking

george unfortunately I have to disagree with both your statements. only because my personal experience has been exactly the opposite. I had 3 different dolphins and could not hear them run from about 2 ft away. I can hear my brand new sequence in the other room. not loud but I can hear it. sequence is not what it once was this I promise. they have turned into a cheaply made company as far as I am concerned. at least the reeflo pumps. I have also had my sequence snapper for around 3 months and I just received a new seal because it is leaking. they said it is a common problem and it is normal for them to weep a little salt creep. I think thats crap. I want it sealed since it has a seal. I have not changed it yet so I don't know if it will stop or not. if not I will get a different pump once again because I have not found a quality pump yet. tunze is junk and the sequence is mexican junk in my opinion. I did have 3 different dolphin pumps and never had a single drop leak out of them. some others did have leaks though. probably the case that every company has problems and the world is going to the dogs. if anyone finds a true quality pump let me know all I can find is junk. the sequence power consumption just like dolphin is higher than advertised.
sorry for the pump rant but you can see I am tired of people passing junk as quality.

I ran 3 dolphins and had nothing but problems switched to this dart I have now and couldnt be happier strange how different people have different experiences with the same products the reason i wne t dolphin to start with was the excellent reputation they had but gave up on them when the third one i got suppossedly hand built by dolphin sounded like a turbine on a jet running then started leaking after a week my sequence is whisper quite in comparison and hasnt been any problem but thats what makes this a great forum everyone can give opinions on something to at least educate others to make a more informed decision

true george. I forgot I did have a sequence a couple years ago that was as you describe. unfortunately since then there quality has gone mexican. which to me means a big fat zero in quality. I tried to get one with an american motor and they proved to be liars also. the pumps was ordered and the person ordering it from sequence or reeflo was told I have a couple with the american motor right here. the order was placed right then for that specific pump. the person working for them knew of the difference and then the pump didn't come or something and sequence/reeflo was again contacted and someone else said we never had it and it wasn't available. going against everything I believe I purchased it anyway because the tunze was junk and I am paying for it surely. very tempted to get a dolphin. only problem with dolphin is the partial owning son died a couple years ago and they hired some thug to take over his position. since then everything went down hill. sequence is telling some people that baldor stopped making the motors for the older better pumps they used to make when the truth is they went from $40 to $80 and they were too cheap and greedy and wanted to make the same profit margine on the higher priced motors. they could have charged everyone the extra $40 and been done with it still making the same amount per pump. seems they are more worried about looking good on paper than they are about keeping customers happy.

Well, with all that info I think I will try the Dolphin. I will let you know what it sounds like when I hook it up this weekend Rob. I will also give you a follow up on it in a few months to let you know if I find any salt creep.

Rob- Have you heard anything about the new Sieo's coming out? There are 2 on a single multi-controller that is very similar to the Tunze's. I am waiting to see them, but I think I may try them. From what I was told, they will compete with Tunze in preformance, but are much cheaper.

Ted, Thanks for the drums and the powerheads. I will get them back to you ASAP.

Mike- Jamie is coming over on Friday evening, so I will be draining the tank Thursday night. Thanks for his name and number. I will post pics of the plumbing once it is completed this weekend with the new pump and all!!

your welcome but don't buy a dolphin on my word I am to the point I don't like either brand. I actually can't find a brand I do like. I know I am mister negativity but it's not like my time and money are endless. I feel that I should get back what I put in and I work hard and I do a good quality job or I will tell you to find someone else to do it. don't we all think the world should work the way we want it to? ;)

All they run at Get Tanked is Dolphins of various sizes and Greg said he uses them at home too. He is the one who recommended it. Close to the same price as the Sequence just closer for me to pick up.

You have not heard about the new Sieo's?

oops forgot about the seio's . yes I have seen a picture and heard of them. they are to compete with tunze but do not have the controllability like tunze. not as many different options at least. I would get a wave box and be done with it. it comes with a controller. $500 one time deal and it does better than 4 tunzes on a controller. I will be going that route very soon I think. then I will sell the other tunzes probably. I don't think 2 seio's will be enough for a mature tank with large corals which is were we all want to end up. the wave box is big enough. for now the main dolphin pump will be plenty. save your money til you can afford it and buy a few corals along the way so you can have something to watch when you get the wave box. you can adjust the wave height as low as you want I think, ask rvitko in the tunze forum here on rc he knows all about tunze and is the distributor.
forgot to mention dolphin is supposed to be using better seals now than when all the trouble was around. that has been 2 or 3 years now. also what pump model are you getting. make sure the amp draw is 1.3 or under. any other pump will be too large for your over flows and there is no sense valving it back. I am tempted to run 6 or 700 gallons through my sump and just use the tunzes to move water around the tank. electricity bill is killing me.

I am think of the 2700 GPH Dolphin pump. I think Mike said his does around the same GPH.

I agree about the Tunze wavebox. I checked it out and I think you are right. I may just wait to get one of those. We have plenty of flow for the softies we already have. I think I will wait and invest in one of those.

Thanks again for all the info!!
