We need nfo on changing over tanks 55g to 220g

I ran the numbers through the calculator on here and it is a 210.

My pipes are about 6 inches above the surface right now and we did put vents on them out to the side and drilled holes in the caps. When I get the socks, should I extend the pipes since they are vented to reduce moise or just leave them the way they are?

definately sink them just not too far. if you get too close to the sock bottom they will shoot water out of the vent holes. deep enough to stay under if your sump gets low.

That is what I was thinking.
Right now, I sound like I have a waterfall in my house!!! LOL

Thanks for all the advice Rob. You are very helpful. Hopefully you can make it to the next meeting. It will be at our house and you can see the tank and give any more advice you think will help us. I am hoping to have a great turn out so we can get advice from all of those who have successful systems running now.

you are welcome. now if I could take my own advice instead of always tinkering my tank might get better. looks like a big ol butt right now.
I may be able to make the next meeting but I work alot of weekends since thats when I make most of my money it's hard to pass up. my weekly job pays the bills and weekend money pays for toys. :) gotta have play money

I understand that...if you can't make it that is ok. I know you are not close, but if you are ever in the area, please give me a call and come by. The knowledge you have about this hobby is something that can only come with experience. We are very thankful for your willingness to share this with us.

cool. and you thought the tank purchase was expensive. wait til you buy rock and corals for that sucker :) I am glad I am in the watch it grow stage.

I bought the 70lbs that you see in there and I have about 65lbs in the 55. I am going to get another 100lbs tonight. They are going to hold it in their tanks for another week or so, that way it cures. I can't wait to change it all over. We are doing that the weekend of the 23rd. Protien skimmer will be here on Wednesday.

awesome you are letting it run before changing it over. I think thats the best way if you can do it. I would get the rock right after the skimmer actually. when you pick out the rock tonight leave it under water and shake/twist it around in their tank to knock as much loose stuff off as possible. then when you pick it up do the same thing. this will help you alot.
my reasoning for getting it before the changeover is you can use the rock and good things in the rock to help the tank along. if there is huge dead stuff rotting of course wait but if it's fairly clean I would get it before the 23rd. that will be over 2 weeks of good things going on. then you won't spike as much as if you did it all one day. you also have the advantage of testing the water with the rock doing it's thing before putting your livestock in there. might save a life or 2. you can always wait another week or 2 if you have too.

Cool guys , what did ya guys end up doing for the plumbing? Did you do the 4 drains?? And what return pump are ya running and int or ext and brand!!!??? :D

We did plumb it with the 4 durso drains. We are still running the mags until I can get the new pump and glass drilled. Maybe after next pay check. That way we can do all the changes next weekend and hopefully change the other tank over the following weekend.

Mike- Do you have the guys number that did your tank?

I know you recommended the sequence snapper, but I was wondering what everyone thinks about dolphins. I heard from someone that it may be quieter then the sequence. Anyone have experience with these?

Has anyone heard anything about the new Sieo's they just came out with? I heard they are on a controller like the tunze's. There are 2 on one controller...I think. I will have to research more. I was wondering if they (Sieo's) are anygood. Is it worth they difference for the tunze's if sieo is now coming out with one on a controller and everything for like 1/2 the price and the GPH does not seem all that different.

All of the help is rally appreciated and we can not wait to share our new tank with everyone!

Yes I do have his number. I will PM him also to see if hes available. Ill get back to ya as soon as possible with the info!!

His PM box is full,, I shall call him in the morning :D

I personally never used the Dolphin pumps so I can not comment, sorry.

Just check the wattage that the Dolphins pull at the head your going to use it at and compare the 2. Is it a cheaper pump than the Sequence?

Mike- Let me know when you hear from the glass drilling guy. Do you think he can drill it under the tank it is already it there. I would have to drain the main tank to get it out. :(

Nope he cannot do it when its in place. Unless you want your living room flooded!!!! Sorry but theres no good news for that question...
