We need some excitement before the next meeting guys and gals

I will be there for sure. This is going to be my first meeting and I am really looking foward to it. Do I need to bring anything? Also how much are the raffle tickets? Joe

Hey Grant you figured out the computer thing good to have you aboard. I am sure whatever you bring will be appreciated if not then I will take them all;)

Welcome to all the newcomers.

Nate sorry you can't make it I was in first in my league till they rested Brees for the last few games. Knocked me right into 3rd place but I had fun.

Like Santarosasalt says do I need to bring anything?

Grant

Hey Grant.

I was also at JoFish on Tuesday. They heat their whole fish room versus using individual heaters for each tank.

Joe mentioned they were planning on getting some more fish and coral in before our meeting.

Thanks grant those zoas seem great. We will let Tom have first dibs on the Yumas. But look out after that:) Since Jed is brining wine what else do we want. Food, dessert?

Do they have PC actinic bulbs? I need a 96 watt 4 pin. Anyone know?

Hey Tom i am ready to do my rock........do you have some time. I'd like to make something like what you have. Maybe you can show me some tips and tricks. I plan to get some of the shelf rock from the place across from Friedman’s this weekend. I have tons of mighty puddy....i have some tip ties but may need more.....i think you said you have some acrylic rods....what else do I need?

Also I plan to pick up my sand this weekend. Still trying to make a decision on size and type.

Shane, sure I'll help you. I do have some fiber glass rod left that you can use. They sell it at Tap plastic pretty cheap too. Bob also want to make some rock work too so maybe we can have a rock party :D

When you pick out lace rocks make sure to get some flat pieces, weird shapes, angles chapes, and a good stable base shape rock to start the structure. Have a "final" shape structure in mind when you look at rocks that way you will pick out the right rocks. Some people will tell you that these rocks will create problems because it leaches metal ... baloney .... they are working out fine in my tank and everything is growing just fine as long as you have a moderation amount of lace rocks.

Thanks Tom...lets have a rock party! So should i still use some of my live rock that I have? Also do you guys keep rock in your fuge? I have some in it now but I was thinking of taking it out to get the cheto to grow faster so it has some room to move, it is packed with rock that I have taken out of my tank.

Also Tom i need some info on how you built your canopy. I will bring some drawings to the meeting and you can give me some ideas. after that will be all the DIY light wiring.

how far off the water is your canopy? It looked about 8 inch

how thick of wood did you use? I'm thinking 3/4 plywood

Did you cover the canopy or leave it open for ventilation? I am using sea swirls so it will need to have some gaps for them to fit.

I plan to use 3-4 fans on each side built into the canopy for ventilation and cut humidity.

Do any of you guys use a dehumidifier in the house due to the tank? I am going to make covers for the sump and fuge to cut down on evaporation but it gets humid in my room now with the tank and i think with 4 times the water i may get mold. So my plan is to get a good dehumidifier and hook to a floor drain to stop the humidity.

PS: I'm ready for this weekend! 3 days of fish work = )

I think this will be a long conversation and I need to show you in person. we can talk about it at the meeting tomorrow? I am available this Sat if you want to bring your rocks over. Yes do use some of your live rocks to create the structure.

But to answer to your questions, yes 8" above the water, 3/4 inch ply is fine, the top should have some ventilations for heat to escape, and use these http://www.acousticpc.com/noctua_80mm_fan_nfr8.html they are the most quiet fans out there. If you have a controller then hook these fans to the controller so they don't turn on all the time. I even have my fans turned off in the winter when the temp drop, this way my halides will help heat the tank to save heating energy.

I have an AC so that is my humidifier :D keep your tank cool and help with the humidity.

Cool thanks Tom i will be at the meeting tom night. I plan to get the fans you showed me from the same place; coolerguys.com has some good stuff and good price. I have a RK@ so I'll plug it into that. I am going to the gun show on SAT at the SF cowle palace but should be back by 3-4pm. I'll be bringing my right and left bicep to the show, I probably won’t buy anything cause all my money has gone to the tank. Got some time then I can head up to pick out some rock and bring my live rock that is clean of coral.

I have a few drawings to show you'll will have to tell me what you think. I'm excited!
