im just about to get a bigger tank its about a 37 gallon with a 17 gallon sump, with the weight of the tank and the cabnit i guess this will weigh in at around 500lbs

i live on a 2nd floor apartment and was wondering if anyone would have any opions if it would be ok ( i dont want it falling through the floor)

when i think about it a full bath would way closer to 1000lbs and that has no probs just a little bit worried, can anyone set my mind at rest?

Try to find posts in the floor and line the tank up with that. Aak the association what the weight restritions are and if the tank is permited.

I had a 45 gallon in my apartment and that was a FW FO so no LR to displace water.

If it falls through its the apartments fault...

37 gallon tank + 17 gallon sump = childs play as far as the floor is concerned. A 55 with a sump is no problem, too.

If you're "second floor apartment" is the top of a street bum's cardboard box, then you're in trouble. Otherwise, no worries.

Unless you plan to put this in the middle of a room, you should have no problems. Ofcourse the corners of the room are the most structurally secure areas if your still concerned about weight.

im going to put it next to a load bearing wall, it should be fine, when i think a 4ft would probbaly put less pressure on the floor as it will cover more beams

You have to remember folks that apartments in London are older than ours in the states so....:D

Only kidding Josh-if you frig doesn't fall through the floor the tank will be fine. As was mentioned some renters insurance is a good idea. Not so much in case the floor caves in but floods happen (often I'm afraid). It is bad form to drip salt water all over the fellow downstairs collection of original Monet's. ;)
