weird paste on zoas

Earlier in the day, I saw about a 1x1 square of one of my zoa rocks closed up. I noticed a white "paste" covering them. It almost looked like glue. I know nothing was put in my tank. About 10 minutes ago(about 9 hrs after I noticed this), I took a fine brush and brushed it off the zoas. It came off easily. Any ideas what this could have been?

White paste is a horrible fungus that can spread to all your zoas & wipe them out! Get those zoas into QT, brush them off with a toothbrush & dip in Furan. Vitamin C should help keep them strong too. See our thread on that, for dosing instructions.

the poylps stay closed. i found it in the same place again this morning. again i took a brush and brushed it off. unfortunately, i dont have a qt tank.

It almost looks like the zoas are getting eaten by this paste. Some polyps look like they are falling off, or going to fall of the rock soon. Took the rock out of the garden and set it on the sandbed. Hopefully nothing spread, and I can save the rock.

I had that issue before, white paste all over the polyps. I get a soft toothbrush and cleanse them in a separate bucket. ( don't want that paste getting all over healthy polyps ) I dipped it in a mixture of clean tank water and hydrogen peroxide mix. I saw it here on RC somewhere it worked for me but don't know how effective for others and worse situations.

I read somewhere here on RC. It was a mixture of tankwater and H.Peroxide used in a separate container as a dip.

I used it too with conjuction with Furan2 when battling zoapox. help out the healthy or not as sick polyps. But if the polyps are far from the point of no return then chances are slim that they get passed the treatment. Please research this treatment as before trying, I 've read that they use this treatment for brown fungus as well.

I have a similar problem on my radioactive dragon eyes.... looks like they are shedding their "old skin" from the polyps to the base as they are growing. Mine is like a yellowish whitey color

I have a pick before the iodine dip, but I had brushed the white stuff off. I woke up this morning and it's growing again. I took a picture. I also saw my yellow tang picking at it. Unfortunately I've never posted a picture on here and don't know how. I'd look around, but have to go pick up some glass for a sump I'm building.

sorry for digging up such old post, in regards to this problem, any idea if the zoas smells when covered with these paste?

like dead rotting sea. If it is to that point then I would ditch the frag. IMHO
Was it a wild piece? It usually happens from sponge die off under the mat and causes the bacteria to fester. good luck
