The term for what you saw escapes me at the moment, but it was the reproductive cycle of a worm. It comes out, swims around, spawns, and is generally harmless.
I have a couple of red one's. One swam into a curly cue or another anemone and just desintegrated as it touched the anenome. Some hitchhickers were eating them too..

Wanna talk about weird. I get home the other day and my Coral Banded Shrimp has somthing hanging out of his mouth, squirming. It is the worm, and he is feeding it to himself. I still haven't figured out if it is cool or disgusting yet. lol...
