Weld-on 4 for butt joints?

I was wondering if you could/should use Weld-on 4 to weld two pieces together, end-to-end, to make a longer piece. Say two 96"x12"x3/4" pieces to make a single 192"x12"x3/4" piece. This would be to make a tank 16' long but only 1' tall. I understand you could also use #40 but i have read that it is weaker than a #4 joint. Could/Would this work? Is this the proper way to do this?

while solvents *can* be used on butt joints - on this I wouldn't. If you're using good material, 40 holds just fine and is the preferred method for this type of thing as most can't get the machining good enough solvent welded butt joints and have them look good.

Just remember, the material will likely be 2 different thicknesses so you'll have some finish work to do either way.
