Went to FAOIS today

Cool, did you take notice of his LR at all, I have someone looking for a BIG piece.
How is that one Coral that you fragged for me and ya noticed it was in trouble? Did he get better?

I was in FAOIS today and notices that there were 2 rocks about 40 or 50Lbs each covered in coraline! - if that's what you consider BIG:)

Ted, I have seen David8956's tank... the rose milli is absolutely gorgeous.... which matches the rest of the tank. The color contrast with the blue tort, green slimer, red milli, orange cap, green cap... and the list goes on.

David8956, has anyone personally invited you to our ANCHOR meeting on September 2 in New Port Richey?

That's the meeting being hosted by pmike25 right ? If so, yes.....he invited me when he was here last weekend.

Saturdays are usually when I try to get my "honey do" list done so I have Sunday to goof off, so I'll have to wait until closer to the meeting to see if I can make it or not.

David,

You mention having to be selected because you don't have much room. Maybe it is time for a larger tank. (-:

It has been about 1 year since I have seen David's tank, but it was amazing then and I know the pictures he has posted are awesome.

Chris

ted did that 20% include the rose milli frag? he usually doesn't do discounts on frags especially ORA frags. I looked at them the other day when I was there and had to pass them up because I just bought a motorcycle saturday and spent almost everything I had. saying that I just did a job yesterday and have another saturday and monday so I may just go get one . did he have more left? I also saw the rock ron is talking about. his tanks were pretty much packed full.
snake oil . hahahaha it's funny if you guys are refering to john not using your so called snake oil's . he uses vodka and amino acids in his own tanks. all you have to do is ask him what he is doing. he may not recommend others using it because it is easy for users to mess it up since all tanks are different. besides if you listen to everyone saying what not to use you may be missing out on something special.
ted why don't you add magnesium granules to you reactor so you don't have to add it manually anymore. zeomag is the easiest to get. promag is also available. $25 a bag your reactor might get 3-4 uses out of it. you only add it when you change your reactor media. to me well worth the not messing with it everyday since you already have a reactor.
not much to say about the progress we see in dave's tank the pictures speak well for themselves.

Rob, if he gave a 20% discount on his already low price ORA frags, he wouldn't be able to stay in business. For the quality of live stock you can't beat johns prices, IMO.

I'm not talking about too much or too little. I just want to clarify that john never gives the discount on frags so someone doesn't walk in and say bag those and get to the counter wanting the discount. just thought it should be mentioned since you bought a frag and mentioned the discount there might have been some confusion.
john's ora prices are exactly the same as everyone elses. it just depends on who they send what to that week or what is ordered. unfortunately ora is not what they once were but very glad to see they are doing what they can.
you got big long polyps like john had yet? I saw them and they were extremely extended. then again thats the norm at his place.

Maybe it is time for a larger tank. (-:

Chris.....I actually seriously considered that. Even priced out a 125 at John's one day (I want a 6' tank, but don't like the looks of the 6' x 2' x 2' 180 gal tanks) Then I started thinking about building a new stand & canopy, upgrading my skimmer & chiller, buying a 3rd halide set up, buying 6' VHO's, etc, etc. I could easily drop another $3,000 to gain 2' more tank.....just doesn't seem worth it to me. (Of course, knowing what I do now I wish I had started with a 6' tank)

Rob, I don't know what John puts in his tanks, and it really doesn't matter to me because his tanks and mine are nothing alike. Think of all the people that have hands, sometimes up to their shoulders, in his tanks every day. Think of the huge amount of water leaving his system, and being replaced daily. Think of the huge bio load, and the fact it changes constantly. That is not even close to describing our tanks at home. I can see why he would dose vodka, but why amino acids ? (Unless it's just something he is playing with....it's not like he usually has stuff long enough for amino acids to make a difference anyway)

yeah dave that is really all most of us trying things are doing is playing around I guess. trying to reach another level with less work I guess. can things be done this way or not. I don't mind trying things if it's something I believe can help. dave you keep your tank cleaner than most so alot of things don't pertain to your set up. something you might or might not benefit from could be amino's. it has been seen in many tanks to absolutely send growth and some colors into something very unbelieveable. some actuall studies have shown over 100% increase in growth over the same coral under the same conditions over the same period of time. it is in fact something to play with. it doesn't work for everyone and sometimes it is a big mistake and causes death and growth seems to completely stop for some people. I have experienced both personally. I am so confused on whether or not I truely think it does any good or not. sometimes I think it's great then I start killing things. not something I recommend for someone scared of losing corals. I'm a mechanic so I don't mind tinkering and trying to fix things. some say it don't need fixed but I see things differently. why not make it better or more efficient is what I see. the coral makes it's own light type of thing I would want it to be better somehow. so I mess with things.

DAVE? you don't go arm pit deep in your tank daily? I do it a couple times a week . sometimes I have to dip my face in to get something at the bottom near the back. gotta love a taller tank. I could not imagine a 3 ft tank. do you have a scripp's milli ?

yeah David i know what you mean .
everytime i look at other tanks it seem nice but then ..
i know how mine operates ... etc...
i am also considering electric cost.. its getting ridic.
my 90 is perfect for me. and when i can make my 90 tank shine the best it can..then maybe... i dont know...
i think ive decided to make my 90 the best it can be and go from thier.
somedays i see the sohal and man a 240 or 300 would be nice.
then more lights more bulbs more salt... more live rock more....more.. more..
and im like ..ill stick with smaller fish...and less corals. or keep cutting them back more often

I've got a 10g and 20g tank. Just think of my overcrowding issues! and with the rock I just got from FAOIS, I just filled up about a third of the 10g zoa tank. :D

Rob, I try to stay out of my tank as much as I can but yeah, I'm in it shoulder deep a couple of times a week. My point was at a LFS someone is always in the tanks cleaning, getting stuff out, putting stuff in, etc.

So amino's can make growth and colors explode....do nothing......or kill everything ? And they are expensive ? Hmmmm, I'll pass. Best wishes to you though.

do you have a scripp's milli ?

Yep.

David, do your millis get very hairy ? When I put a milli in my tank it gets like a woolly mammoth in just a few days. I don't know if that's good ,or bad,but they seem to grow very well. Ted

dave are you fragging the scripps milli any time soon?
john does about I don't even know the amount of water changes more than us. not including water changes from selling water with corals. i do hear what you are saying about everyone in it. I would guess he changes the whole tank at least once a month. glad we don't have to do that aren't we?
that scripps is awesome by the way. mine was always a little more purplish but then again it was less pinkish so not sure which I would want more. 1 of each would be good. oh did I mention I killed mine with snake oil ;) or at least what I guess is a mixture of too much amino acids and something in my tank I can't measure cheap.

Ted, mine have long polyps out all the time, but I don't think I would classify mine "wooly". If you look close at the pic I posted, the polyps are out much more towards the center, where it is somewhat shaded by the Blue Tort above it. That would indicate it should have more PE in less light than it's getting, but.....your lights put out more par than mine, and you seem to get more PE  I'm not sure anybody can really explain PE. If they're growing I'm happy.

Rob, since most of my stuff is just regular old Ora frags anyone can get fairly cheap from John, (that's where all the corals in my growth thread I posted came from) I'm not in any hurry to frag stuff. I kind of like the look of whole colonies. If it was rare stuff I would be more inclined to spread it around in case something happened to it.

By the way, I change over 40 gal a month (20 gal every other weekend). That's 1/2 my tank volume every month, another reason not to get a bigger tank. That's like you changing out 70 - 75 gal every other week...no thanks, that's a lot of work and $$.

Well, I got a beautiful efflo coral at FAOIS for my birthday and I've got to share...

Every day I go to the tank and say, "grow and be healthy." I just think it's so beautiful.

Wow pretty cool, good luck with it!!! Im sorry I didnt get over there to pick the frags up that you had for me.. Are you going to make it to the meeting the 2nd?
