Ended up coming home with a Carpet...

I had been waiting to find a nice RBTA...

I decided to get it because it was supposedly bought when very small and has grown considerably in the last year, it is attached to a rock that it was attched to when originally purchased, and it was just dropped off in a bucket as a trade in for someone that didn't have the time anymore. I'm a little worried with it being a carpet and all, but I had a hard time resisting. If it starts casusing trouble in the disply I've got a lot of room in my prop tank...

it looks like its trying to do in impersonation of a crocea clam... :)

very pretty carpet, good luck with it!

He pokes his "head" through a hole in the rock. Hopefully he'll expand more (not too much:eek1: ) once I get home.

You dont want that thing, its terrible looking, looks sick, you should send it to me immediatly and i will nurse it back to health!!!

Anyone want to refute my belief that this is Stichodactyla gigantea?
looks like haddoni to me if it has veracue could be mertensi tentacles are short for a gigantea

I agree...doesn't look like a Gigantea to me either.

I'd say Haddoni is most likely. Mertensii would be a phenomenal find though.

Definitly haddoni. There is no traits about it being anything else except the fact that it's on the rocks. That is just a weird haddoni. For sure haddoni though. The short tentacles are to short to be gigantea, even an unhealthy one, and mertensii is just....Different. Trust me, i have all three.

Thats REALLY amazing!!!! I love the color, not the normal blue colors you see either!

what puts it over the top for me is that its on a rock!! did you pay an arm and a leg for it?

I've never seen a S. haddoni even close to that color blue...by far the nicest blue I've seen on one throughout all of the pictures on any sight. What an amazing find. If that blue stays, you are so lucky.

One good thing about it being haddoni is that they are considered one of the easier carpets to keep. Giganteas can be a serious pain...sometimes.

Peter,

What store in Milwaukee did you find that at? I was just down there yesterday.

Dave

Aquatics, it had just been traded in and they hadn't started acclimating it yet.

It wasn't cheap but I think I got a good deal for what it is. I'm trying to decide for sure what to do with it... It was a bit of a hasty decision (I mean look at the thing!). Keeping it in my display could get messy if he starts to move and I fear for my Mandarin. I have room in my prop tank but again if he moves too much he could cause problems. I also have an extra 65 gallon and MH setup with an old 3' air driven skimmer that I could setup as an anemone prop tank. Or I might just end up trading it off to someone that wants to propagate it.

Anyone have much luck with keeping carpets in a mixed reef?
