Whale Rescue

Last night I had the most amazing experience! I volunteered at Marine Mammal Conservancy in Key Largo. They have two stranded pilot whales that need care 24/7. They need volunteers to get in the water and help keep them afloat, hydrated, and upright. They also need help when they are giving them their meds and feeding them, keeping track of their heart rate and respirations. It is an amazing experience to help save one of these creatures! This is a worthwhile cause. If you want to join the rescue call them at 305-451-4774. They need LOTS of volunteers at ALL hours of the day.

Just a heads up, you need to commit for a 4 hour shift, and be willing to trim your nails super short. They provide wetsuits, shoes, gloves, etc. They also provide food and snacks for the volunteers, as well as water, gatorade, sodas, all free of course. They always need donations of food and drinks, as well as bug spray, bottles of alcohol, hand sanitizers, etc.

This was last night...

This sounds amazing! Id love to....just waiting to hear back from some friends who are interested as well...

If you're going to go, call ahead to get on the volunteer list and if they dont answer, keep calling back. This is literally on the beach in the keys with some tents set up. When they dont have volunteers, they need to be in the water themselves, so sometimes they may not have people available to answer the phone. They're also on FB at: http://www.facebook.com/?sk=inbox&setup#!/marinemammalconservancy

I think you can set up volunteering through that way too; I'm not sure.
