what are some fish that you will not try to keep again?

Mandarin dragonets. Had one WC, and then much later, one ORA-bred, and couldn't get either to eat anything but pods (which I could never have enough of)--had to give them away to a friend with huge, pod-filled tanks just to save their lives. And to be honest, I'm not patient enough to cut off all my powerheads for 20 minutes and pipeline food to them two or three times a day.

Not a fish, but hermit crabs. They never did anything for my algae, but they did climb all over my corals, causing them to close up, and kill and eat all my snails. All crabs, period, really...I just don't trust them. Too many of them are either downright predatory at some point, or inclined to at least "sample" other livestock.

Dottybacks, unless I have a very large or specially dedicated aquarium. Beautiful, but even the supposedly peaceful species I've kept (orchid, sunrise) became bullies after a while. And they're near-impossible to catch.

Wild-caught specimens of species that are available captive-bred...I don't think saving a few bucks is worth depleting wild populations.
Some good points -- and I wouldn't want to bother with that either. The thing I love about mandarins is that as long as you have the pods, they are a maintenance free fish.

Funny thing about this thread, I see many people who could have avoded headaches with a bit more research on their fish/inverts.
One fish I NEVER have luck with is Gramma loretto. So far, I've killed six. I love them, so I'm done. My tank is too aggressive now anyway. I never understood it, but they either vanish. Or prosper for 2-4 weeks and then, die. Its heartbreaking. In my early years I thought it was my newbie mistakes (with the first two, yes it was..). Now? I haven't a clue..
BTW, I've owned BT Damsels and Sankey's dottybacks. Some of the nicest fish I've ever kept. Thought the damsel turned mean after the wipe-out of my 36 gallon tank back in January last year. Otherwise , it was a pushover..

Clown Tang. Couldn't keep it fed enough with all my other tangs stealing all the food. It died.

Mandarin Dragonet. Same thing. Couldn't keep enough pods in there for them after a few months. Lost both of them.

Bannerfish. I don't recall which species, but it was the one that is supposed to be more reef safe. Again, couldn't keep it fed enough. I used Rods, and it would eat, but apparently not enough. :(

achilles tang tried 5 in three years the longest i kept one was 4 months done with them also sohal tang a real beauty but what a monster have one right now living in a sepparete 220 all by himself never again

One spot rabbitfish - chased any other fish with yellow or gold in it (PJ Cardinalfish, Sailfin Tang)
Psuedochromis - mean mutha
Kole Tang - Not a difficult one, but I'm 0 for 3 :(

Rock Beauty. Bought at the "right size".. About 3.5 inches. Grreat color. Active. Eating mysis in the store. 90 gallon tank. No hostile tank mates. Fat and healthy. Got it eating mysis, plankton, frozen angel formula with spnge in it, NLS, and cyclopeeze. Looked excellent Tuesday. Wednesday night I come home.. Dead. :(

copperbands and angels. although i have desire to keep more of these fish. i desire other fish and my corals much more.
i think im pretty much done with leopard wrasse as well but i may attempt a potters or two as i have never tried with this one before.

don't know if anyone mentioned this, but Clown Sweetlips...never had luck with that fish...gave up over 20 years ago!

Peppermint shrimp. They don't eat aiptasia, hide all the time and then die for no reason. I'm 0-3 so I gave up. They aren't even that pretty
