What band saw is preferred

Hi, reef doctor sounds like something i need, i frag a lot also. I will give it a test drive $200 isn't a bad price at all.

I chisel is one of the worst techniques ever..... as i found out the hard way. You might as well just smash your colony with a hammer.

Thanks.....

Reefdoctor, everything you say is true about using all the old ways of cutting up corals that just don't work that great.

This would be the only saw that would do all the jobs needed to get the clean cut. Who wants bad cuts and tear up their prized corals. I just purchased this saw today off of ebay for the price you posted of 189.00. I think the price is great and I have heard others say how good of a saw they are and how clean of cutting you can do with them.

Thanks for the tip. Much appreciated.

I don't know if this is common practice, but I use the dremmel or tile saw and cut the back side of the rock about 3/4 of the way through the rock, then stick a wide flat tip screwdriver in the cut then twist until it pops.....then I cut through the skin with a razor from the back side.

This way the wheel isn't ripping up the skin, and if I wind up cutting through the center of polyps.....the polyp grows back on both sides almost every time.

Yep, that's how I do it too. I don't like abrading and tearing up a bunch of tissue with the blade.

You can do multiple zig zig cuts on the back side if you want to do a contour cut also.

If I have a ton of cutting to do, I'll put saltwater in the resevoir. Otherwise I just sprinkle some on the blade.

The blade got rusty because I got lazy one time and didn't hose off the saw when I was done. On top of that, I left the saw outside for "just a day" that turned into two weeks, hehe.

I have to agree with Chris. I do not frag much & was nervous the first time I had to do it, but this band saw made it simple.

So you got that DB-100? I remember when Eddie emailed a while back asking about it =)

Great saw for the money, buying replacement blades is painful at $50-$100 each! That's where a tile saw comes in for removing excess substrate, those skinny stainless blades are only good for 100 hours or so cutting glass.

So no one wants to mention the $1200 ring saws?

Yes we got it. We do not frag much, so it has barely been used, but when we use it...it is easy & quick
