What clowns dont jump to their death?

I am really trying to avoid putting a screen on my tank but I just had my 2nd percula clown jump to his death! Do all clowns jump?

I've heard it can be a problem, even with Biocube users (when looking at the gap that exists, you'd never assume a fish would jump through there). I never took the chance with my Perculas, they have the fishsaver mod on the Biocube

I have a large female Chrysopterus who doesn't excited about much of anything. I can't see her jumping. However, if I were to put a male in the tank he'd be more prone to jump for fear of his life. Anything like that going on?

I've never known clowns to be jumpers. What other fish are in the tank? Is it possible the clowns are getting harassed to the point of jumping???

They are the only fish in the tank. I found this guy in the overflow box last week and spent a fews hours trying to get him out of there. This was definitely the male so maybe the female pushed him over the edge

Can I put a different species clown in there with the remaining percula?

Clowns jump and you had forwarning of him trying to leave. No, you cannot put a different species in there.

you can put an ocellaris in there, but imo they arent' as pretty as percula's. I like the black contrast.

Cover your tank with a mesh net. There are instructions on building them around reefcentral.

Check with bradleyj on how to build an effective mesh netting. Don't tell him I sent you!

Yeah, some of the newer products make easy, almost invisible covers. Much better that the old eggcrate and outdoor pond mesh. BRS has some great stuff.

Also a fan of the bird netting.
When it comes to jumpers, clowns are not my first thought, but as mentioned earlier all fish can.
Also agree an occ would be ok to add to your perc if done properly, but I'm also a bigger fan of percs than occs, and both have the same capability of jumping.
Some lights tend to really click off rather abruptly, this tends to spook fish, I like moonlights and an actinic cool down for this reason, I think it helps avoid spooking/jumping.

this is my 2nd one to jump and this guy jumped last week into the overflow. I should have done something sooner to prevent it from happening. My kids are starting to ask where the other nemo is so right now we are telling them he is in time out in the overflow box again. That should buy me some time to pick up another one and make a net.

Like this. Use a do it yourself screen kit from the home improvement store of your choice and just replace the screen with bird netting. +1 on the stuff that BRS sells it looks a little nicer than what I have. Youll get used to it and its great to not lose any more fish to jumping.

clowns in anemones tend not to jump. lost 1 to jumping and saved the others MANY times being in the right place and hearing the splash. since i got an anemone for them to host, no issues. they never leave it.

The key phrase being "tend not to jump". There is no guarantee of keeping fish in the tank without a covering.
