What "Different" do I want

Ok landscape photogs, you guys know this is not my forte'. What besides camera, lenses, tripod, filters, and cleaning things might I need or want that I may have laying around? I know you guys are inventive and have your own ways of doing things. Should I take a flyswatter for something? Or a pair of chopsticks???

I spent the last hour getting a strap on my tripod, so now that can swing on my back. The camera bag is ready although I'll be doing some lens cleaning tonight. Think about it. Don't forget, I'll have to lug it with everything else, so I won't be taking the microwave.

Jesse, the real key to good landscape photography is shooting when the light is good. That, under normal circumstances, means within a couple hours of sunrise or sunset. The long shadows, warm light and lack of extreme contrast are really what make the genre. While it's possible to make a good landscape image at noon, it doesn't happen very often.

Follow the light first, the subject second. If you've got good light, look for a subject that can exploit it. Don't find a tree you like and start snapping away. When you think that you've captured a scene, move the tripod and do it again. Try from low angles, try shots with lots of foreground (in focus preferably).... Sometimes you have to exhaust all of the obvious shots before you can really get creative.

We are gonna try to be there by before 7:30 in the morning, (it's a 2 and a half hour drive). Sunrise is about 6:45 so that will leave a little early time. I haven't been there in quite a few years and I have been trying to remember the orientation of the waterfalls.
