I don't have any of the old thicker mouse pads left I used to use and have a couple of pumps that will be sitting on the bottom of a glass sump. All opinions/ideas ae welcome:) Just not sure what rubber products I can use that are proven safe in reef tanks.

Thanks, Chris

I use those rubber pads like used to come with the Mag pumps, Or any foam type pad you can stuff under the pump.
Bill
PS, I'll get with you soon about the frags.

I ws thinking what John said. just take the pump out and put a good dab on 4 corners of that eheim. let it cure for a good 12 hours to make sure it is safe. on the genx, that one is non sub. it shoudl have some soft rubber feet. my genx was loud cause of the fan more than anything else. I have seen folks mod them with a heat sink and a PC fan. that is the best way to silence those.

I use the foam sheets from WalMart or Hobby Lobby. Cut it to size and secure it to the bottom of the pump with cable ties.

Best thing I've found are the Silicone hot pads sold in the cooking section in Target/Wal-Mart & other cooking supply stores...they typically have raised squares or ridges on them...they are non-toxic, hold up to saltwater, do not collect much funk, and are cheap and easy to adjust (very flexible) to problem areas, usually no need to remove pump.

The GenX pumps have a submersable line as well;) If I was using external pumps I would put them in another room like on my last tank:lol:

Where do you get the vinyl tubing Brandon?

The silicone "feet" sound like a good idea but the silicone hot pads sound like the kind of thing I've been looking for.

thanks! Chris

the eheim 1260's aren't very heavy and because of that I actually suspended mine off of the floor of the sump. It just kinda hangs from the return line (which is connected and held in place on the back of the cabinet) a little off the bottom of the glass. works well and no vibration. Also put a union on it so I can remove and clean the pump. But the eheims work so well it rarely needs cleaning.

There is a site that caries thick pads for this application. it might be BRS, Dr Fosters or some other store but I know I have seen them on line. There are plenty of other good suggestions on here. The pads that I saw were about 1" thick. good luck and tell us what works the tubing does sound compelling you could even run it one way and then the other if you were really wanted to get it as silent as possible. Good luck let us know what you did.

Chris,
I build Hot Tubs for a living and we use rubber mount pads on the bottoms of our 5 HP pumps. When I looked them up on Marine Depot's website a while back, they are the same exact thing. I can get a few if you want. They are super cheap to begin with, since I buy 500 every couple of weeks, so let me know if you want me to grab one for you.
