What fish have you had nip clams?

I have a bicolor blennie-- was hoping to get a clam (Deresa most likely) someday. I have heard the bicolor blennies can nip clams (in this thread and others).... I don't want to get rid of the fish, I like him... so am I out of luck? Do I need to wait until I get a new tank several years from now before I get a clam or should I give it a try anyway?

Coral beauty caught nipping HARD at my clam--CB's now relocated to another tank.

My lawnmower blenny likes to perch on the clam. What's funny to me, is the clam doesn't barely flinches when the LMB does this. It'll react very actively/rapidly if I pass my hand over the light or if a fish swims overhead, but the LMB must have a very gentle touch!

How in the world could you catch a blenny? Is there a trap? I think mine is what has caused my clam's mantle to receed? I seen him once or twice mistake it for algae and hit it but once he found out it wasn't algae, he left it alone.

Any ideas?
Spank.

Blenny's are rock & cave dwellers, and creatures of habit. Mine would always hide in places that made it easy to catch...a cave in a small rock, the backside of a powerhead, and all I had to do was leave a media bag inside the tank with some gravel inside, and the blanny would set up shop in there as well. When I stick my hand in the tank, the blenny would bolt for the media bag...easy catch.

I've never seen my Lawnmower Blenny nip at my Maxima. I did catch a Zebra Turbo snail which was larger than the clam cruising all over the clam shell cleaning algae from it.

I have caught my Lawnmower Blenny nipping at my Crocea once or twice. If he keeps that up, he will not be making the move to the new tank.

As an update, my LMB did not get the chance to make the move to the new tank. I woke up one morning to find that he had gotten sucked up by the POS Prizm Red Sea HOB skimmer siphon tube. I was even using the basket so that it skimmed from the surface. Don't know how he managed to get himself in there, but I was very bummed to find that he was dead. Quite a character that fish.

BTW, once the 120g finished cycling, the Prizm is going to fall prey to some #9 shot from the 12 ga.

Yellow Tang, Achilles Tang, Kole Tang, Bahianus Tang....

All of them nip my derasa.....but nobody nip my maxima....

Ah, I sold all of them heheheheheh

wayne_sreef,
Are you sure that the wrasse wasnt cleaning it? Wrasses are known for picking at clams, but not really the clam itself, just the snails and such it might find on it.

My regal blue tang! I caught him nipping at my new crosea this week. I have a regal angel and a flame angel they never touch the clams. I read the post about keeping them well fed. They may hold true for my other fish but not this tang. He is VERY well fed. However, he was an old fish when I purchased him 8 years ago. Now he must be senior citizen.

My navarachus angel nips at my smaller crosea but never bothers my bigger one or my derasa. I cant figure out why he only picks at the smaller one but he dosen't do much dammage.

Quick question.
The LFS keeps a Coral Beauty Angel and a Flame Angel in with their clams. {clams in tank are t. maxima, t. crocea, and t. deresa} Do you think one could successfully keep these same fish {Coral Beauty Angel and a Flame Angel} in another tank with similar clams, or is this clever trickery of LFS? LFS guy keeps pushing these, but I refuse because I love my calms and do not trust these fish. Any thoughts?

I have an orange honey chromis that is well feed but always picks at everything. I just got a derasa on new years eve and have counted at least 5 different times he has picked on the clam. Everytime he does the clam retracts and takes about 5 mins to reopen. I am going to try to catch the chromis tonight. Besides that my yellow clown goby likes to sit on the clam, but the clam doesn't seem to mind. Not even a flinch.
