Tough call with a tank that small. What sorts of algae are you getting?

If recommending something for a 40B is too easy... then feel free to make it more challenging and recommend me something for my 20L.
I haven't tried fish, but have had decent luck with just a couple of asterea's and a couple of small turbos. If the turbos get too big and start bulldozing I'll drop them into my display and get a couple more smalls.

ive got brown hair algae, nothing too bad, just some clumps that im sure would make a nice dinner for a algae blenny im thinking. but ill have to get a nice net on top of that thing

I like the snail idea. Small emerald crabs might be another good choice if the algae is course.

Algae Blenny would get rid of your problem real fast in that size tank, he would then require extra feeding to stay healthy. Snails may not be a bad option either.

My algae blennie went back to the LFS after eating many of my corals. I wouldn't recommend one. Mine was an exception but why take a chance.

I have had growth on egg-crate repeatedly. with Acrylic I have some nice made in china that does grow a bit, though it cleans easily. Recently I picked up some blueglow acrylic which is supposed to be a higher grade made in the USA and I have had no growth in the last two weeks.
My experience has been very favorable to acrylic.

The only time I've really experienced algae growth on the egg crate in my frag tank is when I've been really really lax on tank maintenance, or the RO/DI unit needed all the filters, etc changed. As long as I stay up on top of water changes and such, the only algae that really grows on the eggcrate is coralline. And I have your everyday white eggcrate from Home Depot. Maybe I'm just lucky. However, I do have to say the acrylic frag racks from blueglow are awesome looking! If I had the money, I'd be tempted to switch just for the aesthetics, but alas, that won't happen any time soon.

What about a tuxedo urchin? They do a great job of cleaning algae. They could potentially carry off some of your frags, but it might be worth it.
Jesse and I have a starry blenny in the 40 long for algae control, and the only thing he eats is meaty foods. Needless to say, he's going to have to be evicted soon since he's definitely not doing anything to decrease the algae in the tank.....
