What happened to this site

It be tough pretty much all over. Very few guys left from when I joined. I'm in the boonies, so Facebook does offer some other folks closer. Most have been in the hobby a 5 years or less. I still miss Rods Reef, at least that was a half way point for me to meet up with the city folk.

I agree I do miss the old times on here... and I also agree a couple of the administrators banned to harshly and kind of ruined it... I'll probably get banned for saying that

Well I saw many people banned because the mentioned another site and certain people... maybe the administration should have backed off a little because I believe they are what destroyed this community

People were not banned because they "mentioned" another site.
There were many other reasons things happened.

Was it ideal? No.
Can we fix it? No.
So I don't think rehashing those dark days gets us anywhere.

What happened to this site

This thread notice keeps popping up in my email and i couldn't resist taking a peek finally!

This forum was the place to be back in the day! There really has been no other replacement for it and I don't see the community like we used to have here anywhere else. I gave up even looking as I can't stand the majority of the people on the sites or Facebook.

I did make a lot of lasting friendships here in the forum and in the hobby overall in those early years of my reefing hobby. I'm actually still in the hobby and have taken a few breaks in between. Nice to see some familiar names popping up on this thread again! I'm suppose to see Juggy later today to get a nem! I've even adventured with her to Australia to help Koala bears 4 years ago and to Africa a year ago at a wildlife park to help with Animal counts!

Hey, I even have stuff for sale I just pile in the corner now so I don't have to deal with hobbyists!

I used to know how to post emojis... maybe? Lol

Haven't been here in years. No tanks setup but hope to get back to one in the next few years. Right now I'm fixing a 50 yr old 10 acre man made lake with nutrient issues.... It's kind of like reefing without pretty sticks.

Wow, hadn't logged in here in a while. Glad to see some familiar faces. Forums are definitely not what they used to be, well specifically this local one. There used to be threads for days with something new to see constantly. I miss the days when everyone used to be in here and everyone knew everybody. I'm still going strong but I hear a lot of people have also left.

Wait, are you referring to a lagoon?

Nope. Neighborhood lake that acts as surface water overflow for the area. Moved a few years ago to live on a lake and then Realized they had quite the algae blooms. Talk about a tough industry - lots of misinformation. Been moving in the right direction the last year. We will see how this summer season goes.

Are you doing this as part of work or simply helping out? Just curious as I myself am in the waste water industry.

The Last President of the HOA moved out and nobody was going to do it. A huge part of us moving in was the lake is and they were not moving in the right direction and wasting a lot of money on independent consultants that weren't helping them.

I solve problems at work as a consultant, so this combined skills.

We actually implemented a wastewater crossover technology late last year. Shoot me a pm if you have any advice to offer. We are battling very high phosphates. I believe they are related to years and years of chemically treating the algae. I think we have a built level of organics that need broken down.

Well I'm getting back into the hobby after a 6 yr hiatus and although I don't live in Chicago anymore this is still my home school group. I was really sad to see that its died. The forum was a great place for learning, chatting, and getting to know people. Facebook groups are not the same and do not replace the knowledge base of a good forum. I miss all my Chicago reef peeps!

Looks like I'm getting back in, never on the scale I was at. I've had a 210 fowlr going a couple years and now it's been ok but I was missing coral. So I cleaned it up and have added some shrooms and zoo's, also some RBTAs and a volley ball sized rock covered in green hairys. This will be softies and lps no sps this time. A problem with 1 of my radions and trouble with a couple gyres will be slowing me down, they're closed like most businesses, so no service until???
I'd love to get this forum going again.

A lot of familiar names here. Hello everyone!
I haven't been on RC since taking the tanks down. Trying to decide if I should set it back up as a project with my daughter or get rid of everything.

It's nice to see old friends are still here.

Dave: in! In! In!

Sully, we've had our dust-ups on the past but ol' farts gotta stick together. Get in touch with what's up on your gyres. Coralvue can still get you stuff but I have reserves of parts if you need something simple....and if you tell me what's up I bet I can identify the issue too.

Wow

Wow
