What have you done with your tank lately?

today I have a choice. Study for tomorrow's summer final in poli-sci or remove and clean my sump and stuff.
The sump won. Poli-sci can wait till after dinner.
I cleaned it to get all the GFO out, down sized to a smaller Skimmer for room and added a ph meter I got this weekend.
This post is however pointless due to me not having the internal fortatude to post a dozen iPhone pictures.
I apologize.

I'm just lazy.

Hello all!

I have been asleep at the wheel, and my tank has had some rough periods, but I'm still in it. The worst was when my A/C went out again this summer. You can see the die off still on the orange digitata below.

Anyway, I went on a week long family vacation and my tank sitter cleaned the glass and loved my tank a little. It got me inspired to start trying again, but I thought you guys might want to see it with clear glass for the first time in months. :)

So Ive recently changed my lighting from 3 x Pharos LEDs to a 72" 3x250 MH with 4x 60" T5 actinics(for now) and 8x moonlight LEDs.

It came with three supposed 15k bulbs that actually looked more like 10k. Here's what it looked like.

I wasn't happy with the spectrum and thanks to Tige21v (he gave me the bulbs) I was able to put 2x Phoenix 14k bulbs (one on each end) and change the spectrum to something I like a whole lot better.

I know the blue will lighten up to a more crisp while after a couple weeks of burn on them but it's still a lot better than the yellow/white spectrum that I had with the bulbs that came with it and if it still real blue I'll forgo the actinics for something a bit more crisp

So you now have used leds T5s and halides. Which ones do you prefer so far? Pors and cons also

TBH I didnt use T5s by themselves for more than a few months so can't really testify to them although I think I had some growth in the few months I did use them

The LEDs I used for two years and Im not sure if I just couldnt get the spectrum/intensity right or If the LEDs I have arent powerful enough or what but I could never get corals to grow other than GSP and Kenya tree which can grow in the dark. None of my corals really died but they just didnt grow at all.

Again since Ive only had the MH running for a week I can't really testify to any pro and cons. I do know that my temp only goes .5 degrees over what I originally had it set to go anyway. I had it set 78-79 and it goes up to 79.5 now so not a big deal at all.

I'll give this fixture a year and see how the growth goes.

I see my rock flower anemones continue to grow in your tank as well! Giant aiptasia!

Welcome back bradleym. Glad to see your stuff is still alive

This, good to hear from you Brad.

Brad and Kego - both tanks looking great.

Thanks everyone! Still trying to balance life with kids and all, but I refuse to give up that easily. I'll be around more as this little frag of mine gets to be self sufficient.

I changed my apex over to my main system. I have also began testing to get everything dialed in.

Just added a dose of chemi clean to the system and turned the lights off. Will leave the lights off for 2 days and see how things turn out.
