What is so great about the ice cap ballasts?

When I bought my retrofit from hamilton tech, it came with three black boxes, which I assume are the ballasts? They sold me the electronic kind becuase they said they last longer and perform better, all though they may be a little noisy. So why do people use the ice cap ballast, is it quiet, more efficient? I am just curious.

Well they are one of the best reflectors especially with t5 bulbs. Icecaps can also overdrive your bulbs to get like 80 watts out fo a 54 watt or something in that range.

Its actually the magnetic ballasts whick might be noisier. Electronic ballasts are more power efficient, there have been some reliability issues with electronic ballasts
