what is the best ATO?

I have an Elos digital and an Elos non digital. The digital is pretty nice. Not a fan of how it attaches to the sump but the technology is pretty cool for how it detects the water level. Never tried a tunze so I can't say which one is better but i do like how the Elos performs.

I love my auto top off
Been using it for years

But i have the 2 float switch one. Mine is 6 years old have only had one failure of the primary switch but the second one picked it up. Zero damage.

Dr- What is the biggest concern with Kalk overdoses? Ph correct? I know you have a controller, as do I. My controller is set to switch ATO off if Ph is above 8.6. Thats my safety for Kalk overdoses. As a mattr of fact there is an article in chemistry forum on what to do with kalk over doses, and if i remember correctly unless your ph goes over 10, or 9, cant temember, and stays that way for extended period of time, there is not much to worry about.

I have heard good things about Tunze, and have seen it at MACNA's, and although pricey its pretty neat. However, i havent found the reason to switch.

Thanks Eddie,
You always give sound advise :), I've ordered replacement switches and will be setting it up with a fall back switch. I'll also program the fail safe in my apex for pH < 8.6

Sounds like a good plan. ide love to see your tank some day. :spin2:

Avast 100%. It uses a pressure switch to operate a relay. The pressure switch is not sensitive to coraline build up, snails or other critters.

Of all the products I've looked at, the avast ATO would work best for me. I can pretty much keep the same setup just use the avast sensor. However, They're website shows back ordered for apex compatible unit :(

Dr- IMHO- an atotopoff.com dual switch with a controller back up is all that is needed. Dont know anything about Avast set up, but think about it.

Just looked at Avast. sounds awesome, but what would be different from my set up?

Not comparing, just want input?

Thanks Eddie, pH is normal now. Only thing I noticed is Duncan's are melting and both anemones are closed up. Everything else looks fine

Just looked at Avast. Looks like a work in progress to me.

Agree, just like the idea of a different sensor. Also, like that I can hook it up to the apex. I sent them an email but ordered replacement float switches, I'll be installing a backup switch this time

Doc- I dont think its about a "kind" of sensor, but the lack of a back up. They can all fail, hence the idea of a back up. In having a second sensor AND a controller back up, you are preety much covered statistically.

Im just now trying to hook up an Apex, but my AC III can sure shut OFF ATO if Ph is higher than 8.6, LOL

The new innovative marine conductivity driven ato controller looks nice. For 199 throw on an aqualifter and bam

Marinedepot sells it for $169. New product, uses a 5 volt DC conductivity sensor. Not sure I want to subject my tank to a constant 5v. Also is the most expensive!
