What is the best temperature range for clownfish?

If it's a reef tank, keep it within reef temp values, the fish will be fine. My clowns have done just fine during summer months with 80+ temps as well as winter months with 74 temps.

Most clownfish are from tropical areas, so I'd target 80-82 F for them. There's at least one colder-water species, though.

My false perc's have survived 85+ and also survived a tank crash (forgot to turn off top off water). I feel they are very hardy fish and can withstand way more than what the corals can

I agree.

Sorry for revival but came across this. What is the one species your referring to? Would love to add one to my temperate tank.

Joyce Wilkerson's book might have been my source for that. Amphiprion mccullochi might have been the species I had in mind. It is subtropical. I'm not sure that counts as "temperate". My background in biology is minimal.

78°. Over the years I've seen them happy anywhere from 68° to 90° but you'll probably have problems with at least some anemones and corals at those temps. And FYI it's normal for reefs to see several degrees fluctuation on a daily basis.

I let my tank's temperature drop to 76 during the winter. My clowns stop laying eggs when the water drops below 78, so I suspect 78 would be the ideal low temperature, although I also I also think it's not a bad thing to give them a rest from all the egg rearing.

Thats perfect for me. My tank is staying about 69 this winter, and I believe will be around 72 over the summer. From LA

Conditioning the captive-bred Amphiprion mccullochi is fairly straightforward. This fish is not as demanding as other more challenging species. In the wild, the McCulloch's Clownfish is accustomed to water temperatures surrounding Lord Howe Island - 22-26 degrees Centigrade (71.6-78.8 degrees Fahrenheit) range during the summer months and even cooler in the winter months.

Now I have to chase down these temperate nems from reefgen. :hmm5:
